You and Spectre...better yet, skip it and just take Tech1.

For the record... I've not bashed DIR for months... not since I was able to see behind the arrogance of some of the DIR fringe.

I'm just not a blind follower. If I don't understand the reasons behind something, I'm not going to do it... unless someone either 1) convinces me, or 2) I figure it out for myself.

(Sorry...been out of town)

I have done cold water, low visibility, wreck penetration, night and current in fresh & salt water, including ice diving...

I voted No & No in the poll - Given the option I would vote No and mddolson has encapsulated how we should all be thinking perfectly (in my humble opinion.)

Rather than DIR we have GIR (Got It Right)

Ian

Got it Right = Pot
Do it Right = Kettle

Think about it. Maybe it will MAKE and impression. ;)

Did we ever find out who voted "Took a GUE class and am against DIR"?

To me, DIR has nothing to do with blindly following anything. In fact, I am amazed at all the thought that has gone into the gear and processes. Many of the seemingly little things do not make sense until down the road when more gear is added for more complex dives. I am not there, and may never be, but it is nice to know if I do that the rig and thinking I have now need not be changed much at all.

In our DIR Fund class there was never any "do it this way", it was always a matter of the trainer asking everyone why they had their gear set up a certain way or why they responded to an event a certain way.

I am a fairly new diver, and one of the main reasons I liked DIR and all from the start was that there is a recommendation and then a good reason behind it. Now you can argue the merits ad nauseum, but there is one there. This is contrasted with a process of individual evolution taught by some of the other organizations. To me it is just a matter of choice...
