Is this referring to someone in particular ? or just anyone who isn't DIR <?> GUE <?>

That was me playing around...one doesn't have to be DIR/GUE to hold stops and avoid destroying the vis...we have to keep a sense of humor about the debate..otherwise it gets to be too much and stops being fun to talk about..

Thanks for clearing it up.

I have to admit, up to this point I have come to the following conclusion (s)......1) If you are a believer inthe DIR way you are indeed an AHOLE......2) If you are not a believer in DIR you r are indeed and AHOLE........

This leads me to a further conclusion <?>...That wee are all AHOLES...therrefore we are equal, therefore......why are we wasting good dive time responding to this silly question ?????

One further question re GUE?DIR.......how are they interrelated ???IS DIR a fundimental of GUE or ??????????

DIR predates GUE.
DIR is the formalized approach of a small group of successful (in terms of both accomplishment and safety record) Florida cave divers... namely the WKPP.

GUE is a training organization that teaches those outside of the WKPP the DIR methodology. GUE seems to be growing not only in student base but also in scope, extending some elements of DIR into the recreational dive arena and eventually it is hoped by many to the certification of OW students... which it does not do as of yet.

25 ft reef dive in full tech configuratio and preparation = practice ( for most )

Simple premise, simple answer. The kind of learning discussions I appreciate. Not my setup is "better". The "best" kick is X. The "best'' regulator is X. Give me the specific pro's and con's and how these are affected by different environments.

By the way Uncle Pug, am I one of these rototillers you're referring to? Its alright Uncle, I'm a big boy now I can handle it.

I will admit I still till and roto a little underwater, but less everyday. Out here on the surface, well, you be the judge.
:)

I asked him the same question and he waxed philosophical on me and I needed a swami to help decode the answer....

The Woodville Karst Plain Project (http://www.wkpp.org/) had to retrain many of their divers to break them of bad habits ingrained by PADI/IANTD/NACD/whoever. Their suggestions to the existing training agencies for improvement fell on deaf ears so finally out of frustration a new diving educational organization was spun off by some members of the WKPP named Global Underwater Explorers (http://www.gue.com/).

A similar, but parallel process occurred with gear; none of the mainstream manufacturers would listen to the WKPP’s suggestions for improvements. Eventually after modifying gear for years, some of the WKPP members approached then-called Brownie’s Third Lung (http://www.tankfill.com/) with their ideas. Brownie’s spun off a company called Halcyon (http://www.halcyon.net/) that produced equipment made to the WKPP’s specifications.

Note that nothing in DIR is new or unique nor invented by the WKPP, they just pulled all the little bits and pieces of diving methodology, gear and technique together and called it “Do It Right.” Other manufacturers and agencies all had the chance to assume the leadership role now occupied by GUE and Halcyon, they just thought their fluff marketing teams (maybe if we offer it in pink it’ll be a better seller?) were smarter than real divers.
