I never really had a ferar of sharks, didn't think about it much, and I have never seen one while diving in the ocean other than nurse sharks, but I don't count them (no offense menat to nurse sharks).
It had been since August when I was in the ocean last prior to this dive, and I had been in the fresh water since then too. I developed my shark phobia, but since my dive last sunday I don't think about it anymore. I figure it this way, its not like they are are sneaking up from behind, waiting for me to be looking at some cute little fish, and then whammo! eat me when I'm not looking. I don't know how I'll react when I ever see one, but I'm sure it will end up be a very cool experience rather than an oh sh*t there's a shark in here with me!
If you think you need to overcome this fear why don't you plan a dive trip to EPCOT's The Living Seas at Disney. You can dive the tnak there and there are sharks in there swimming with you. Think of it asa controlled environament thing. Maybe that will help you and 'condition' you to diving around sharks.
