I booked my trip to COZ, my travel agent did not provide me with flight details until yesterday when I picked up my travel stuff.

I Fly from L.A. to Dallas at midnight for a lay over. Wait 5 hours. then fly to COZ? That sounds lousy to me. I'm very dissapointed with this arrangment. Is there anything direct from L.A. or a better way to get there? I dont want to begin the vacation all exhausted from getting there.

I'm so upset that I am preparing my Trump speech for my agent. I'm even considering going to Hawaii instead so that I do not have to waste so much time at the airport.

What do you guys think?

Grin and bear it. Coz is worth it if your going there to dive. Read a good dive book or take a nap while you waitng.

You'll have to talk to someone else besides me about this...I usually drive to Dallas the nite before and rent a room before the flight to Coz. from DFW. That's not too bad for me, just a 2 hr. drive then stay the nite.

Ya on a charter package, huh?

Have fun, I wish I was goin' with ya!

Although I do hate surprises like that; been there done that but not as bad as your itenerary. That sucks.

I would make sure the next time to check the itenerary first...if it's not good for you make other arrangements.

I'll bet on the second day there you'll forget about all of the travel problems. :D

Charter package??? Not sure exactly what that is.

Every year I just tell my agent what two places I would like to travel to and what type of activites hotels im interested in, and she puts some stuff together for me. Then I check which package I like best. I had very good results in the last five years, but this flight info kind of changed that. Can you imagine just sitting 8 hours(3 at LAX and 5 at Dallas) at the airport waiting to board a plane, this does not even include the flight time???? I'm estimating about 15 hours total just to get there.

I have been to COZ before and I really liked it, but this flight schedule blows like a whale. Im seriously having second thoughts.

I dont understand why their are no direct flights, L.A. is not out in the boonies.

I forgot to mention. I called my agent to let her know that I was dissatisfied with the flight schedule and she told me that it was the best she could find. I guess I was hoping a board member would be able to check if my type of schedule was the best to get from L.A. to COZ.

Hi,

What are your exact dates of travel? I did a search and it looks like there is a flight leaving Los Angeles at 5:45 in the morning and arriving in Cozumel at 2:26 in the afternoon. It has a stop in Houston but it's only for 1 hour and 15 minutes! It's on Continental. This flight has openings on Friday August 12th AND Saturday August 13th.

Thank you so much ;) That is exactly what I was looking for.

Im callin my agent first thing the mornign to let her know about that flight. If she can't do it, I will probably get the tickets myself and have the previous tickets refunded. That flight will save me 5 hours :D

Glad to help!!! There were other flights, too, but they were a little longer (still not as long as that one your agent had you on but longer than the continental).

We actually prefer the red-eye via Houston on Continental. I think the layover is only three hours.

Several reasons:

1) It's usually about $50 cheaper than the later one.
2) The longer layover at HIA insures that we will be on the connecting flight.
3) The longer layover at HIA insures that our luggage will be on the connecting flight.
4) The longer layover gives us time to get to the connecting gate with no rush or hassel.
5) Breakfast in Houston [unlike LAX there are several nice places to eat].
6) We get into CZM at noon, leaving plenty of time for an afternoon check-out dive or two.

There are flights on Mexicana via Mexico City, too.

The only thing I can add to the above is that you might look for a direct flight to Cancun. Instead of doing the layover at the airport, you can do the bus and ferry. I think I may do that for our next trip. Sounds like you're flying American through DFW which is what I did last time, in which case your flight will not arrive on Coz til 2:30 PM. Tough to get afternoon dives on your first day. Coz diving blows Hawaii away. Get there any way you can and you'll be happy you did. Have fun.

Sorry to barge in on your conversation, but I have a question that I think would fit in in this thread. I'm also planning a trip to Cozumel :D , and I'm really against layovers. My philosophy is the less time spent taking off and landing in an airplane the better. I also use LAX, sooo... please tell me about the overland/ferry trip from Cancun to the island. Is it difficult, or is there enough high-quality infrastructure that a family of inexperienced travelers could pull it off without too much discomfort? How long is the trip?
Sorry and thanks for your help
