Was given an older 14ah SLA can light for my birthday from my father. Some repairs include: New batteries, re soldering switch leads, sand-paint-sand-etc acrylic can (was pretty banged up), new test tube cover (broke the original @ Olympus), new temp attachment hardware, 50w bulb, etc.

Was only getting 100mins with a 35w @ first. Now getting 2.5 hours with 50w. All burn time results are here: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=156573

I'm pleased with results, just wondering if anybody else has taken the time to breathe some new life into these wheel chocks?

It looks good, you did an excellent job. Your father must be jealous now. LOL. BTW, how much do you have into the refurbishing? I was thinking of picking up an old light and fixing it.

Thanks, you should have seen the face of Dad's dive buddy (the diver Dad bought the light from).

Around $50-$60, I think. $22.00 a piece for the batteries were the most expensive. I'm sure they can be found for less. $5.00 for a variety pack of wet/dry sandpaper. $7 for Paint (I use a version of Krylon's Fusion; Part of their "Camo" series-- just flat black of course. One can was sufficient. Duct tape, solder, and wire I had lying around. I forget how much the bulbs were @ Home Depot. Be sure not to walk out of the store with the 24 volt version like I did.

Cleaned the can with alcohol. Wet sanded coarse to fine. Rinse. Dry. Put upside down on the handle of my automotive jack. LIGHT coat applied up and down while I moved around the can. Allowed paint to dry. Minus the cleaning step---repeat about four or five times.

Thanks again,
Joe.

P.S. This is one heck of a light to use while looking for a deer your buddy harvested but was having trouble finding. The pressure is on due to the growing coyote population. Just tossed the can in my backpack, no biggie compared to a tree-stand strapped to your back.

Almost forgot, You need some sort of silicon for when you reattach the latches. I used "Marine Goop" I think.
