Personally, I agree. I've never felt like 3 mm wetsuits are warm, and after a couple days of diving even in Indonesia and Thailand I felt like I started to get cold once the dives got close to an hour in length. a 5 mil is just more versatile.
It all depends on your level of comfort, depth, duration.
