I've been to Cozumel once before, but only for a day of snorkeling. It was great and after doing much reading I decided this was a trip that I must take. My wife was listening and got me a 5 day trip to Scuba Club for christmas. She couldn't come as she just got back from a trip to Germany and I work out of town almost exclusivley so with 3 young kids in school she is sending me on my own.

So far seems all straight forward, but looking for any advice/tips. Also looking for anyone that might be at this resort who needs a dive buddy. I have no problem diving alone, just would be nice to hang with some people is all.

Lastly, while I live in the US technically I'm still a Canadian and carry a Canadian passport with a landed immigrant card. Is this all I need or should I be looking into a VISA?

Thats all you need. You automatically get a tourist visa when you go thru immigration at the airport in Cozumel. The airlines pass out the forms on the trip down. You will have no trouble buddying up at Scuba Club when you sign up for dives or just meeting others at the resort.

Welcome as a diver to Coz! Someone else can chime in about the Canuck stuff...but as for Coz. You'll find a buddy right away - no problems there. Diving is even easier than snorkeling and much better...but please don't touch stuff if at all possible. Other than that...enjoy it all and just go with the flow!

My son is in SanFrancisco (software engineer) on a NAFTA visa. His Canadian passport is all he needs to travel anywhere and re-entry to the US has not been a problem. Cozumel is one heck of a Christmas gift - you must have been really good last year. My favorite dives have been the Palancar Reef sites and Santa Rosa. They will likely be on your scheduled list with the dive op as they are popular sites - if not make sure they add them. Enjoy your vacation. I'll be in Playa del Carmen FEB/MAR and plan to get to Coz as well - can't wait.

That's how I got to Cozumel the first time, we were in Playa for a week vacation and took the ferry over one day for a snorkel trip. We wished then that we would have spent a couple days there.

And yes I was a very good boy last year. Doesn't hurt to let your wife go to Europe to visit friends and go shopping either:D

One reef I really like is Colombia Shallows, which is more or less what many of the shallow areas used to be like before hurricane Wilma destroyed them. If they offer it as a choice after the deep dive go for it. Other favorites are the 4 different Palancar sites and Colombia Deep.

Thank you for sharing your pictures!! We will be diving in Cozumel this April and my sons are so excited to see some color! They have only been to Hawaii and the reefs are kind of sad there. Thanks again!!!!

Holy Cr#@ those are nice pictures. You must have one nice camera. Your knowledge of underwater creatures is impressive. I'm afriad my little old 3 mp sea and sea rig will not be up to par.

What is your set up if you don't mind? I'm thinking of getting a Nikon D60 (well more like have decided to get) and then get a case and strobes for it. Any thoughts? A friend of mine purchased a D60 for watersports pics and I was truely impressed.
