After almost causing significant personal injury associated with the use of improvised fireworks the night before - I thought I would start the year off with something safe and relaxing...

Very nice. im in nyc and its starting to get cold here. 4 more months before I get in the water.

What kind of fish is that at the end? Weird looking!

Remora

Yeah, they make me nervous because I figure a shark is often close. Hanging with a bag of dead fish is always more fun when you have a buddy to watch your back.

Yep!!

They love to spook us from behind on safety stops. Just like those dang freedivers who sneak down from the boat on top and tap us on the head during deco when we're watching our gauges and freak us out {Jim !!}. Scares the crud out of us, but paybacks are painful topside!!

Do you call it even if they bring you a Capri Sun?

Those are mostly hogfish laid out. Movie looked mostly like lobsters and snappers.

Anyone notice the "safety" violation my son made in the video?

It is an easy mistake and I find myself making it occassionally too. Not something I ever read in a book, but it is common sense and should be considered when spearing and bugging.

I've seen worse. Just try to remember to throw (& point) the gun upstream so it's easier to grab & bag. That's why it is commonly & generally accepted practice for spearos to dive alone. It's just easier, safer, & more productive for everyone on the dive. Now if he had the Mako light kit on the muzzle it would be slightly more acceptable. I have my light on the tip and it is so easy to not hold an extra light.
