I can add a third recommendation for the XXL SplitStreams. I've heard from two people that they are a little snugger than their Turtles when they wear them.

(I actually have a paid for sale if you're interested, but I swear that's not why I decided to post!)

A comment on the back kick in doubles . . . I've found that kick to be very trim-dependent, and most people's trim goes thoroughly to pot when they start in doubles. Almost everybody ends up rearing up a certain amount to avoid going head-down, and it takes a while to figure out the distribution of body parts (and equipment) that permits staying horizontal and still.

I know this thread is 3 months old but that's EXACTLY what was going on with me this weekend! I've got another thread out there I posted about tips for first dives in doubles. It went rather well for me so far (4 dives in..) Sometimes I feel my trim is good but my instructor said I was in and out of trim. It takes awhile to get over the "front heavy" feeling. I'm also switching to OMS slipstream fins as my XXL jets are just a little too loose. I tried someones OMS XXL's and they fit my Bare Trek boots perfect. Lots of little things to sort out. I wonder if the lighter OMS fins may even help a tad.

RiverRat, see my post on the other thread. Head heavy and head high are related. There used to be a superb article about this on the 5thD-X website, but when they moved to a new server, all the illustrations went missing :(

Thank you TSandM! Seems to be exactly what's going on! If I can fix this I'm golden.

I just got some XXL Slipstreams, and I like them a lot so far. Especially with the spring straps.

I've got a few more dives in on the doubles, and they feel about as comfortable as when I'm in a singles rig...although there was the one time I almost drown putting my fins on when I was diving up in Seattle. Dang fin strap wouldn't go one, and then I'm on my back with my drysuit burping all the air out...

That's why you control surface buoyancy with your wing. That's what it's made for.
Not your drysuit.
Dive safely!

All the best,
Geoff

I think my lesson learned was more along the lines of try not to fall on your back when you are putting your fins on in doubles.

That's why I use the sea otter technique for putting on fins. Blow wing up until OPV almost vents. Lie back and do a figure 4 in front of you to put the fins on. Works great, and I don't take any risk of falling in water too shallow to float in. I have done that at Edmonds on exit, and getting dragged back into deep water by my buddies was embarrassing, to say the least.
