These threads simply amaze me. It always turns into a DIR thread. I for one can say that after taken or sitting in on numerous GUE classes, they have never once knocked a particular brand of gear. They have said that bungees on wings are no good in their opinion "because........". If OMS fits that bill, then so be it. Same way on the regs. Some high ranking GUE guys are SP, some are Aeks, etc. Regardless of what most anti-DIR guys think, DIR is NOT brand specific, but more about philosophy and mindset, along with training and education. What I find is that most of the more outspoken anti-DIR crowd have never taken a GUE DIRF class and therefore know nothing about GUE or DIR. If they would, I think their thoughts would change.
Now, as far as the Oxycheq wing. I have personally never seen one, but, if it works for you then great. I have all Halcyon wings and with taking the appropriate training, have not needed to keep searching for something that will help me have better trim etc. In my opinion, if you need a wing to make you trim, that is a crutch. I am not saying having a wing that helps trim is bad, just dont rely on gear to make you a better diver. New product is what keeps the industry growing. If it works , more power to them. Innovation is a good thing.
I will say this about Oxycheq the company though. I too was in Chicago. Never before met Patrick, or bought any gear. I was interested in a 02 analyzer as well. Been to the site before to. Anyway, after seeing my Halcyon shirt, he immediately went into trying to sell me some green force thing . That was fine. The guy likes his gear I guess. But, what turned me off was how he immediately went into words like " So, what light do you have? A helios? They're a big piece of sh**! They leak, they ..." Now, I immediately went from potentially buying product from the guy, to never wanting any dealings with that company. My first impression was "this guy is an ass. Good diver or not, dont care. Thats just me though. For instance, at the Diving Concepts booth, it was like.." What suit do you own? A DUI? They make a really good suit. However, we have a few unique design features that we think make ours a good suit as well. Let me show you the panel under the arm for one..." Now, theres sales. I will never have a problem buying from them and I was more interested in there product.
Lastly, Halcyon wings and lights and such ARE made in the USA in high springs. I have been in the factory and seen it first hand. Welded, sewn, lights machined and assembled etc. All right there.
In my opinion, the anti DIR crowd is the best advertisement for Halcyon, GUE, and DIR. Those that post so much on it obviously arent in the water honing skills. Lets shut up and DIVE!

I know that a lot of DIR classes push you to use Halcyon equipment exclusively so that you will buy it, so don't tell us that that this DIR thing is not gear specific. That is a monopoly if I ever heard one. I know a lot of other people on this board know that is true, just like your "Halcyondrone self".

What doesn't surprise me is you talking about wings potentially being a crutch. You know what, a seam leaking Halcyon wing in 120' of water with heavy gear on and no buoyancy is a crutch and half-ass more if you ask me. What a joke.

Another thing Patrick from Oxycheq is a good guy, he's been nothing but helpful to me and other people on this board, if you want to call him an ass why don't you call him directly, 661-268-0182 and tell him punk.

New gear innovation is a good thing son, it's suppose to improve your diving. What you say in your last post is saying you don't like change, or in other words, new gear that comes out that competes against your Halcyon is not good enough. We can read between the lines bud, it ain't gonna work. Halcyon's wings are not all that cracked up to be, crutch or no crutch. I would rather have a wing that trims me out than having to work at it. I guess you do! Oxycheq is good in my book, until I see something else better that's the way it stays.

My DIR-F class consisted of "this is a common problem with XYZ, and you should use equipment that doesn't have this problem, regardless of who made it."

The students mentioned Halcyon by name, but the instructors did not. The only grief I got for my AUL canister light was that it was an MR11 head and not adjustable focus. That deficiency has since been corrected... and could have been corrected just as "DIR" with a DiveRite head.

Man, I wanted to stay out of this thread so bad. But I just can't stand a person who doesn't have a clue what they are talking about.....

How do you "Know" DIR class pushes Halcyon equipment "exclusively"?????
I use Halcyon, ScubaPro, Apeks, OMS, DiveRite, Sherwood,UK,Henderson, Gates, Etc.......... And I haven't seen or heard of an Instructor pushing Halcyon gear. Just letting you know problems with your gear setup. And corrections you might make.

It's obvious you've never taken DIRf or any other class that pertains to it.

If you're in 120' of water with heavy gear on. You're diving duals. That's heavy gear. I've not heard of problems with the Halcyon Explorer having seam leaks. So once again. You don't know what you're talking about.....

You're the one who has dove the Oxycheq 5-10 times. And praising it like it's gold. And call this guy a punk??? How many dives do you have under your belt total. 11???

You're right. Gear innovation is a good thing. But the Oxycheq still hasn't been in circulation long enough to unthrown OMS, DiveRite, Or even Halcyon.

DIR is also about proven gear. You gonna take a new wing in a cave after 10 dives??? If so, you'd be dead. You don't have enough experience on it yet. It still isn't proven.

And if you read my threads they have NEVER bashed the Oxycheq wing like Scott K. said. I pointed out things I didn't like before I even dove it. I don't have to dive it to see I wouldn't like it. You have to use a STA. I like not having an STA. I don't need the extra weight. I also like it as close to my back as possible. That's not bashing the wing. That's telling people how it is. I also said he's limiting his market by not having a way to not have to use a STA. And that's Fact. Some people like not using the STA. I'm one.

Dude, first get a script for some Prozac or something.... or maybe its Viagra that you need...

ANyways, what does a wing need to do to be PROVEN to you??? DOes it have to be part of an international expedition to map a cave 19000 feet back? Part of a team that is exploring Antarctica? I mean, really, what does a wing HAVE to do anyways? Just give you lift, right???

Well, In my book buddy, the OXYCHEQ has been PROVEN....

I will be taking mine in cave very soon... I dont feel like I am going to hurt myself because you havent put your little stamp of APPROVAL on it yet...

WHy dont you stay off of SB, you are only going to get flamed here....

No friends, its tough, huh?????

You know, post like this don't do much to make people actually listen to your opinions.

All it accomplishes is makes you look like a short sighted, immature young boy.

Your getting worked up over a wing for god sakes.

Your taking someone's differing opinion and taking it personal.
bad form!:upset:

You know, there really is just no excuse for personal attacks from a mature adult. Especially not "he started it".
