I've been using splits for rec diving but due to beginning tech classes, I bought a pair of paddles (Jets design, IST specifically) and tested them. They were fine in the test dive but seven dives for 10 hours over three days beat my toes to pieces with abrasions on the tops of three toes. I feel like I'm pushing a lot more with my toes and am wondering if it's because this design doesn't cover the heel or maybe if the foot pocket is too tall or if it's something with my technique and the fins aren't "broken" at all.

I had that problem with some wet suit booties I had. My foot didn't fit the fin boot with a perfect fit so there was a lot of sliding around, which would irritate the tops of my toes. I took some neoprene and glued it on top of the bootie where the toes were, and the problem went away.

Fins unfitted caused you abrasions. I used Jet fin as well no problem snug and comfortable for many dived.

FWIW, I love my ISTs. I wear size 8 or 9 shoes and my ISTs are size XL. Seemed to me like they'd be too large, but they fit great and I love 'em.

I had similar problems with my jet fins at first. One problem was that my springs straps were too tight. Beyond that wearing regular sports socks in the wetboots helped a lot, and also you just need time to get used to them. Once they break in (or your feet break in) you'll be fine...

Thanks, I'll be sure to try those suggestions.

i had the same problems. switching to the jets seemed awkward at first but you get the hang of them in no time. if problems persist it must be the fit of your booties in the fin heel

Spoon,I agreed what you suggested.

It's an option but since many people seem happy with them, I didn't want to assume it was something wrong with the fin.
