I did a training dive in very dark quarry once, I was diver #4 in a line. Everyone had black drysuits, black jetfins, etc. Diver # 2 had reflective tape on the bottom of his fins. Diver # 3 followed the tape and I followed the tape too because I sure couldn't see Diver #3. The only time I "saw" Diver #3 was when blackness rythmically bobbed up and blocked out my view of those those tapes.
I was impressed and bought myself some relective tape first thing.
On a liveaboard when everyone's fins are stored with the pockets facing out, a paint pen applied to the top of the pocket can help you make your fins easy to ID while in the fin rack. The deck guys seemed to appreciate it, esp. if everyone has very similar fins. I also learned to use the paint pen on virtually everything. Last trip I accidentally grabbed the wrong mask and took it on a dive - same make, same strap, and miracle of miracles, pretty much the same optics. I was very lucky not to have a dive ruined by a mask thru which I could see nothing. The magic marker or paint pen is your friend
