It never occurred to me to do anything like that and I still don't see any reason to do it.

My fins (white paint marker, needs re-applying after a couple of months. Wife made the "O" a little rebreather diver. Couldn't fit "DOUCHE CANOE" comfortably so had to go with DRAGON, @JohnnyC ):

Wouldn't that confuse the heck out of the rest of the team if he switched the left and right fin?

"Who the F...! is this 'Ryldar' dude?"

EDIT: Since there's absolutely no standardization on gear among my clubmates, it's usually quite easy to identify them underwater. This weekend I was diving with "single tank, yellow jetfins & huge camera rig", "yellow twinset & jacket BCD", "white twinset & blue/black DS", "dangling yellow console", "pink hoses" etc., etc. I'm "single tank, black Jets, black & orange DS, yellow 2nd stage hoses & camera rig". And I can identify my fins easily. They're the ones with a large hole drilled in the toe section of the foot pocket, plus a cord loop attached to the springstraps. Oh yeah, and a strip of yellow reflective tape on the underside.

I painted one of my coworkers fins with silver automotive plastic spray paint. He's quite hard to miss now.....

I have some pink/red surveyor's flagging tied on the spring straps.

dove with a guy a few years back who had a rubber chicken in the vents of his fins.

Same here. Kudos for the tip, @swimlikethefish .

Sometimes the cheap stuff doesn't like to stick to the fins. Use a blow dryer to heat up the fin and it should stick. Or lightly scuff the surface with some 100 grit. I do a lot of shore diving and the stickers usually last 40 dives or so. The expensive rolls of reflective tape work best, carried at napa. But, they are EXPENSIVE. So I just make due with the cheap harbor freight kind.
