Ok...will be staying in Kona this February, wondering everybody's take on what the best shore dive is there. Would be cool to find out what the favorite boat dive is also....Cant wait to hear the opinions!!!!

Two Step! Easy entrance, tons of good corals and fish and usually dolphins...
Manta Ray Night Dive! Gotta do it..... also heard the blackwater dive is pretty cool too.

Have fun!

Good advise.

Two step is a terrific dive site, bring extra tanks as there were no air fills there. It was our only shore dive and we loved it.

We dove with Big Island Divers, great shop and terrific people. On the Manta dive schedule one at both ends of your trip, if one dive gets scrubbed, you will have a backup.

Have an amazing trip.

Good advice so far. Another terrific dive op is Jack's Diving Locker.

For shore dives, "Two Step" (aka "Place of Refuge") is an awesome suggestion. It is south of Kailua-Kona.

There are a number of good shore dives on the Kona side. Ask the dive shop about them, and I'm sure you'll get good advice.

Here are a couple of shore dives that I enjoy:

1.) If you drive about 20 minutes north of Kailua-Kona, Puako "Village End" is a great dive with lava tube swim throughs. It has a fairly easy entrance/exit.

2.) A bit farther north still (maybe 40 minutes from Kailua-Kona?) is Mahukona, which is an even easier entrance and exit than "Two Step", and is a very good dive. You can climb in and out from the low pier on a nice wide ladder, and follow an anchor chain out to the remnants an old wreck.

Enjoy your trip!

Puako is a good dive like two step. But you need to know where to get in and out.It is awesome with beautiful canyons. If you don't know the area it is better to get some DM from the shop to accompany you. If you want to do a boat dive you can look up Pacific rim divers in Kona. A husband and wife operation with a six pack boat. Great people and will take you to places that you want to see something special.
