There are not a lot of choices in the immediate vicinity of El Cid. Ernesto's is a great place for both Breakfast (I like its fried potatoes - not as crispy as I like, but lots of onions, and its fresh squeezed OJ is great) and lunch. I've spent many pleasant afternoons eating Fajitas, sucking down some cold cervecas, and watching the boats go by at Ernestos. Blue Angel is not bad - I wouldn't call it great, but it's certainly acceptable. I've had some bad experiences at Paprika - the food was OK, but service was terrible. I went there once with a group of about 8 or 9, some people got their food within 20 minutes of ordering, but about half of us waited for more than an hour before food showed up. No apologies, no excuses, no free drinks to compensate. Also no tip. There are a few restaurants down south of the International Pier, including an Asian restaurant in the I 95 Plaza (head south past International Pier, about a block past the 3-way stop light, it will be on your left). I've never eaten there, but I heard that it was good. Also, while Casa Del Mar restaurant is not great, it is certainly edible. They have a pretty good Sopa de lima (Lime Soup - a chicken broth with chicken and vegetables, flavored with lime -it's pretty tasty).
BTW, do go into town for as many dinners as you can, as nearly all the really good restaurants are there - Kinta, Kondessa and La Cocay for more upscale romantic dinners, La Mission (there are 3 different Mission restaurants - my personal favorite is Casa Mission at 65 off the transversal road that runs straight back from the north end of the Plaza) and Pancho's Back Yard (adjacent to Las Cinco Soles store, on Melgar north of the Plaza), Guido's, Del Sur (empanadas that are NOT to be missed!), Casa Denis, and so many others. And if you are there on a Sunday afternoon, go to El Moro for the Cochinita Pibil!
