This will be our first time staying on the island and we didn't opt for all-inclusive, so what are your favorite restaurants that are walking distance from El Cid? We'll be there for 5 nights and maybe we'll head to town a couple times, but most of our lunches and dinners will likely be nearby the hotel.

Thanks!

El Cid is about a mile and a half south of town and doesn't have many restaurants near it. Blue Angel is about half a mile north of it and is excellent and Ernesto's is between them - it's very good as well. Most of my faves, though, are in town and although it's possible to walk to them it would be quite a hike.

Paprika is between El Cid and Blue Angel, and I've enjoyed it a couple of times.

Agree with above choices, and will be eating at Ernesto's & Blue Angel next trip. There are a lot of new stores just across the street now & there may be a restaurant or 2 in all those new buildings too. These photos may help with the layout in that area.

use the left arrow to see the view in the other direction & note that the Red Roofed building is Paprika.

And this small album has photos of the newish construction in that area.

There are not a lot of choices in the immediate vicinity of El Cid. Ernesto's is a great place for both Breakfast (I like its fried potatoes - not as crispy as I like, but lots of onions, and its fresh squeezed OJ is great) and lunch. I've spent many pleasant afternoons eating Fajitas, sucking down some cold cervecas, and watching the boats go by at Ernestos. Blue Angel is not bad - I wouldn't call it great, but it's certainly acceptable. I've had some bad experiences at Paprika - the food was OK, but service was terrible. I went there once with a group of about 8 or 9, some people got their food within 20 minutes of ordering, but about half of us waited for more than an hour before food showed up. No apologies, no excuses, no free drinks to compensate. Also no tip. There are a few restaurants down south of the International Pier, including an Asian restaurant in the I 95 Plaza (head south past International Pier, about a block past the 3-way stop light, it will be on your left). I've never eaten there, but I heard that it was good. Also, while Casa Del Mar restaurant is not great, it is certainly edible. They have a pretty good Sopa de lima (Lime Soup - a chicken broth with chicken and vegetables, flavored with lime -it's pretty tasty).

BTW, do go into town for as many dinners as you can, as nearly all the really good restaurants are there - Kinta, Kondessa and La Cocay for more upscale romantic dinners, La Mission (there are 3 different Mission restaurants - my personal favorite is Casa Mission at 65 off the transversal road that runs straight back from the north end of the Plaza) and Pancho's Back Yard (adjacent to Las Cinco Soles store, on Melgar north of the Plaza), Guido's, Del Sur (empanadas that are NOT to be missed!), Casa Denis, and so many others. And if you are there on a Sunday afternoon, go to El Moro for the Cochinita Pibil!

Nobody has mentioned La Hach. We've eaten lunch there a few times and enjoyed it -- also great view of the water. I have to disagree with DJDiverDan. I think the food at Blue Angel is outstanding. I totally agree with the comment about eating in town as much as possible, however.

La Hach is great! Eat upstairs and enjoy the beautiful view. We ate there twice on our last trip. Not to be missed!

and don't forget to try the panuchas (hope that is correct) Sunday night in the square...some of the church groups sell excellent home made food and deserts every sunday night at the square..one of the Highlights everytime we are in Cozumel.
