Garrobo:
Brings up the issue of American Sign Language. I think it should be taught in grade school to every student. I've heard that the American Indians used it to communicate between tribes. Why not between nations?

Actually, no. While American Indians did have a sign language they used to communicate between tribes, it was not American Sign Language which was developed much later and is based on French Sign Language. The concept of an international language is a good one, but ASL is not likely to ever be that language. Esperanto was designed to be such a language, but it's never caught on. Today, English is becoming the international language, especially with the internet. We have members from many different nations here on Scubaboard communicating with each other quite nicely.
