She told me that Continental's policy was to do this up to 30 days from purchase but only on fares from their website.
That's great. I quoted you on a new thread in General Travel: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ge...redits-if-fares-go-down-after-purchasing.html
The flight number is 196 LV to HOU, Fl 1802 Hou to RTB $432+ $326 (-$19) = 739.70 Continental AL.......Jan 9-16 2010.....I checked....

found on OneTravel.com, the first flight listed, LAS to RTB....
Click on Book It, gives you choice of fare and taxes.

I am learning how to do this from reading what you guys have written here, so I am just wondering. Thanks.....Larry
Okaaay, a little more information about this. One one hand, there is some truth to the way they present the fares after all - enough to keep them out of jail anyway. The base fare without fuel surcharges can be quoted that way it seems. Here is the breakdown of a ticket I purchased today; click for larger...

In initial pricing, Continental.com priced the base fare and fuel surcharges as a combined amount, but on the final legal receipt they are separated.

What Onetravel.com does is low ball you the base fare, then add on the fuel surcharges after that so they can sneak in a booking fee that other sites do not require...!

They try to win you over by giving you a $19 discount on that $24 rip-off, but the bottom line is $594.70 vs $585.70 so they are including a $9 add-on, not just a $5 net fee. I guess it's in the list somewhere? Still, pretty sleezy...! :shakehead: There are plenty of sites like Sidestep.com that compare total prices of all airlines serving the route, and no booking fees if you use them. Indeed, Sidestop often connects to Continental.com anway.

I doubt that they sell many tickets, but they sell enough to attact more complaints than those I listed earlier.....

I was looking to fly into Roatan for a few days and then ferry over to Utila to stay the month in July/Aug but I cant find a rates anywhere near as good as the above. I am also flying out of columbus but the cheapest rate I can find is gonna be around 580.00 flying back into SPS and SOSA over to Utila.

Cheapest flight on priceline from columbus is a two stopper on TACA for 745.00

I'm not sure about your connections from Columbus, but check out Spirit Airlines. They have flights from FLL to SPS for just over $ 100. Of course you'd have to plan the rest of your trip from there...might be worth checking into :)

I'm not totally clear on what you wanted, but I used Sidestep.com to check CVG-RTB or close airports on several sites for Sat Jul 17 2010 – Sat Aug 14 2010 and Priceline did fail...
Priceline: Cont $896 or TACA $1555 :shocked2:
Vayama: TACA $643
Travelocity: United & TACA $650
Expedia: United & TACA $650
Orbitz: United & TACA$586
Cheaptickets: United & TACA $586
I double checked SPS but that's Wichita Falls TX (I remember when flights from Lubbock to Dallas used to stop there in the 60s) so then checked SAP San Pedro Sula, Honduras...
Orbitz: Cont Air: $485
Cheap tickets: $485
The Open-Jaw into RTB, returning from SAP...
Orbitz: TACA$586
Cheaptickets: TACA $586
Tell me exactly how you'd like to do it and I'll look again. Might find an Orbitz coupon to lower their price...?

I've been looking for a vacation destination for my wife and I as she needs to use her remaining vacation days. We've never been to Roatan or Honduras, but like the current fares from Houston. A few questions:

1. Is early January a decent time to go to/dive Roatan?

2. If so, any recommendations on accomodations/dive ops?

3. How would one get from Roatan to San Pedro?

We would probably spend a few days in Roatan and then go to the mainland for a few days. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We went to Turneffe in August and had a great time.

January is still in the rainy season, but we're going then anyway. It's been very rainy lately, so I'm hoping by the end of January it will be done.

We'll be at Fantasy Island Dive Resort from the 21st - 31st...come on down!

There are connecting flights from Roatan to SPS...

The big 3 on Roatan are Fantasy Island, Anthony's Key, and the Republic of CoCo View but there are many others to choose from as well. I think it'd be impossible to suggest one for any reason other than for each to suggest the one s/he likes - the way recommendations usually go. However, there is a wealth of various trip reports on various Resorts & Ops so as your shopping progresses you can read more on each here. The :search: feature will help then.

I'm going the last week of February in part to avoid the January rains more, and to hook up with this group and their discounted rates: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/tr...-feb-20-27-free-nitrox-class.html#post4873889 seems like a nice group too.

I've never wanted to go to the mainland, and if I was I might want to go in a year without the problems of this one, but if you want to do so - you can book an Open-Jaw with Continental into RTB and out of SAP, then a puddle jumper to get to the mainland - maybe to La Ceiba, Honduras (LCE), not to Tegucigalpa. You going down for two weeks? TACA has flights to LCE for $72 one-way on Travelocity or Expedia, or $97 on Vayama - or you might book that middle leg thru Continental. I don't know what you want to see on the mainland, but flying to LCE then touring to SAP looks a lot cheaper than flying to SAP for $184 to $310 each one-way depending on how you do it.

If just going for one week, I wouldn't bother with other than Roatan. Too much to dive and see there.

The site i nearly always find the cheapest flights on is Cheap Flights, Airline Tickets, Hotels, Travel Deals - Search Data from 100's of Travel Sites at KAYAK, especially useful is the BUZZ section.
That checks a lot of sites as Sidestep does. :thumb: I need to check that Buzz section tho. :eyebrow:
A nice trick is to try and find flights to Le Ceiba (LCE) and then hop in the ferry to Roatan, it often saves ALOT.

I know nothing at all about the ferries. Can you give more info? Flying to LCE does look cheaper. Where, when, how long, cost, comfort, etc...?

The Galaxy ferry leaves Le Caiba for Roatan twice daily - 9.30am and 4.30pm, Roatan Le ceiba is 7am and 2pm.

It takes around about 1.5hrs. and costs about $25 each way.

The dock is about a 20mins drive from the airport and will cost $5-$10 dollars.

Hope that helps

Will
