Thanks for posting that article, gopbroek. CO poisoning would be my guess, as a former firefighter. Saw a few of these. All are very saddening, since detectors make them so preventable.

Which you probably won't find in a hotel room or other rental, yet how many take one on trips.

@ BertStevens - I agree! $25 for something you can plug in anywhere is great! (Btw, when I went to Amazon just now it showed it for $23). Especially if you're going to stay in a condo or apartment. I'm thinking that a typical hotel room wouldn't have a risk of CO poisoning ... but I'll wait to see if @DandyDon tells me different.

I rounded up...

This post made me decide to order one.

First Alert CO605 Carbon Monoxide Plug-In Alarm with Battery Backup

$25 is cheap insurance!
Why not spend $38 on the First Alert combination gas & co alarm? Kidde also makes one that's plug in, battery backup.

But I only travel with my Sensorcon CO alarm as I figure that's my bigger risk.

Haha, depending on my for anything is questionable - but yeah, hotels are risky. They don't have CO alarms in rooms but they have heaters, water heaters, pool heaters, etc. Carbon Monoxide in Hotels Often Result in Fatalities

Between a CO monitor for my room, CO analyzer for tanks, PLB/canister and Nautilus for rescue, etc., how do I accommodate dive gear in my luggage? Don, do you really manage to get all this stuff in a bag with dive and personal gear at under 50 lbs.?

I suppose the answer is to pay for a second bag--it's hard to put a price on safety.

I've always checked two bags. I carry a 19 cf pony & reg, too.

Ordered one as well....I wonder if I'll use it though? I travel so much and have never really given this issue much thought in the past...but both our homes have them, so why not make it SOP for travel as well!
Last thing in your bag, first thing out. Too simple. I carry mine attached outside of my backpack on the plane as they don't have CO alarms either.

Believe it or not but we had our CO2 detectors read 2-4 ppm in outdid air on the dock. Tanks checked 0 ppm.
