Oh. My. God.

These are the tanks I bought. And the guy I bought them from has commented in that posting.

Messaged him. Since he fabricated the story about the roommate in Phoenix, and sold me something no one can legally transport, I wonder if I should contact the cops for fraud?

Well, if he refuses to refund, you could easily bring that fb post back to the top with your own little PSA in the comment section. This might have sufficient persuasion power now that you are equipped with this information.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I already replied to his comment on FB, hopefully it brings the posting up.

I am pretty pissed atm. I will do more if he doesn't respond.

Post his info here since it's pretty likely he'll find this post.

Keep us posted. What a scam.

He replied. Admitted he knew the tanks were not good, he tried getting them hydroed. Admitted to fabricating the story about the buddy in Arizona. Insists he did nothing wrong and won't give the money back.

I'm attaching some screenshots. First 2 is his response to me today. 3d one is his response in our original exchange when he lied about Arizona. Finally, the last one is his super high moral comment about the goodness of people that he left in the original post where he got the tanks. Ironic, isn't it.

Wow. Some people just suck. Not all people, but there are enough sucky people to make us not want to trust anyone. What a dirtbag.

It won't help, but if the guy is active in that local community, I'd probably put a new post at the top of the group warning people about a local who knowingly sold tanks that couldn't be filled. Might save someone else from the hassle of dealing with a less-than-reputable group member.

He didn't "tell stories", he outright lied and sold you goods knowing they weren't fit for the intended purpose. I don't think any breach of implied warranty torts apply to used person-to-person transactions, but if you have contact information for the guy I wonder if you could drag him into small claims court just for spite. You've got some documentation, proof that he admitted to "telling stories", and that he passed a "bad purchase" onto you. I'm no lawyer, but I just sorta feel like a small claims court judge might just slam the gavel down on that one in your favor.
