exposure protection for ny/nj

I've got a 5mm jacket and a 6.5mm farmer john plus hood - do you think this will be enough for diving out of long island and nj in May if I add a 3mm vest?
I know most people use a full 7mm two piece, but i hate the stiff feel of a 7mm jacket. any opinions?

I usually use a 7mm one piece and I'm fine.

That should work, I get cold easy and I'm using a 7 mil jumpsuit over a 2/3 mil hooded vest with a beanie because I don't like 7 mil around my neck. What usually gets cold first are the fingers!

I dive LI with a similar setup. 5mil suit with 7mil core warmer over, hood, gloves.....nice and toasty. Do your suits fit well?

1 dive: no problem

2 dives nd a nice day: bring some soup

2 dives and a chilly windy day: drysuit time

Not to scare you....but the water is still a bit in May....

IMHO, May on Long Island is still drysuit weather.

I'd be using a drysuit...

I would consider diving Dry. If you plan on any deep and long bottom times, it is the only way to go. I personally dive dry all year round. Remember, May is usually still in the upper 40’s at best. And you won’t have to deal the stiff feeling of packaging on a lot of neoprene.
