quand le "stroke" van chercher dans outre "buddy," vouz donnez tout le gear, et rapidamont commence votre plunge.

"Stroketastic" is another great one, from our own Doc Intrepid, word coiner par excellence.

I've read that it originally referred to divers whose greatest interest was in "stroking their egos".

Or stroking George's ego so he would allow them to dive with the WKPP - hell, it was more than 10 years ago, George himself may not remember precisely how he stumbled on the term. The little article in post #3 was published the same year as the "Do It Right (or Don't Do It At All)" article that started things off (IIRC).

Anyway, for a rather eclectic selection of George-isms, here is a list of articles sure to be good for entertainment and edification:

Thanks Doc, I also understand it to be GI III derogatorily commenting how supposedly 'experienced cave divers' would ask to dive with him and after the dive he commenting that they had no bouyancy, team skills. . . . they were 'stroking' him with as Joel coined perfectly 'Convoluted Buffoonery.'

Finished continuing the fray.

Leah, thank you for your warm and thoughtful curiousness. Knowledge (and dispelling myths) helps DIR to grow.

When are you coming to So Cal, we would love to show you around our neck of the woods!
