DandyDon:
El Laurens gave you some great links, but Belize is covered in the Central and South American forum. You'll love San Pedro - they paved much of main street now. :D

And don't be shy about posting. Click Forums above, tour the long list of choices, and jump in anywhere you're qualified. PM me with any questions, and I'll try to find a pretty good answer.

I've been using the Ambergris Caye forum along with the Belize however I haven't seen any related diving questions. Am I missing something?

welcome to SB!

From the literature, swimming is shown to be an ideal exercise for EI asthma compared to other strenuous activity. If he cycles, he should be fine swimming. See what the Doc says.

Happy 30th anniversary!
Thank you for the good wishes. Hubby has completed 30 laps with fines & snoerkel however we have to figure out a way to get him to float - he sinks. (laugh).
Any suggestions?

Welcome to the board!
Be careful with asthma...get competant medical advice before diving!
The written test is easy.

Joe

I started with open toe fins along with the back having a strap. I must have poor feet for the bone (top of big toes) swells causing them to puff up. I have inserts (liners) any suggestions to prevent these? I just started to wear them this week.

go to full booties... The fins might also be too tight. Have the dive shop help you pick out a comfy fin

Water wings. heheheh :D I sink in the pool too. He'll just have to deal with it but it sounds like he's doing well. Unlike me, he'll probably be able to ditch the water wings after a while

Try swimming with the wetsuit since it'll give him the extra buoyancy. If you're going salt H2O that will definitely help. I don't sink in salt h2O (the water wings help a bit but it's mostly due to the difference in density :) ).

Welcome to the board. Remember that your lungs work as balloons in the water. A deep breath will help him stay a float in the pool. In my OW, I was allowed to float in my back. Believe it or not, it helped me. I sank then also....

:yl2jump: Welcome to ScubaBoard! I came here to look for help with my scuba diving dream and the response has been fantastic. So, I know you will enjoy being a member here. There are a lot of nice and informative scuba divers. It's a good place to meet other divers and share experiences and dreams. Take care and Happy Diving. Matt. :snorkels:

Thanks for your advice - these are swim fins - will buy scuba fins after certification or perhaps before. We will definitely have boots. If your're from the Sacramento area, do you know Jorg Dutschke from Tahoe Citiy? He's a ski instructor, Alpine also dives with Pacfic Offshore Dives along with a Sacramento store.

ask hhis doctor on some beneficial tea to help alleviate Asthma.

i have benefitted from such beneficial tea.

Prior to taking the beneficial tea, i normally take pharmaceutical asthma spray. i discovered that if i take the asthma spray before evert dive i am able to keep up with the rest of the group and not consume my air in my tank. taking the spay DOES HAVE SIDE EFFECTS!

to make a long story short, i found a beneficial tea. Now i have little trouble with asthma and i have good if not efficient use of my air while diving.

Is the tea a prescription? He sees the Dr. next. Mon. He uses the sprays, etc., forget his meds yesterday - slows him down quite a lot. Enrolled him in swim lessons (for treading water) along with swim pointers.

I think you may be reading a little too much into her post. I don't think its unreasonable to ask people who have had similar experiences or conditions about how they have handled something. That by no means is advising someone on their health. If anyone were to take medical advice from someone on the internet they should definitely have their head examined - in person. Lol.

If the husband is a cyclist and was on a ski patrol, obviously he is capable of some physical activity.

Thank you for your post - I nearly quit the board with the insult above. Obviously, I was curious if other divers had this medical problem along with being able to dive. I have missed a few comments - saw this one today.
