Exceeding the NDL during recreation diving

A single AL80 might be able to get you into deco, but can it get you and a buddy out of deco?

Of course it can and has done so this trip. A newly certified 23 year old DM who did his course in Thailand thought it would be a good idea to go to 45m and go into deco for several minutes and run down to 80 bar at depth. The new hero DM thought that now he was on dives where depths can approach 70m to sea bed he could just ignore safe diving practices. DM explained that the dive sites he dove on in Thailand were limited in depth by the sea floor to around 30m. Perhaps got narced as diver never paid attention to DC or SPG.

Guide shared air to get him up to a shallower depth where that diver cleared deco ( also myself ) obligation and that diver was back on the boat after 30 mins and I was back after 45 mins with more than 60 bar.

Of course if that DM had to share air the story would have been different. That DM not now allowed to dive with my group again. He also had no deco training and ignored his DC. Always going to meet those Zero to Hero got my DM cert in the minimum amount of dives allowed and thinks the cert makes them a superstar.

I suppose it is unlikely that CMAS will modernize its policies and training and harmonize with the rest of the world.

Very strange post ! What makes you think "the rest of the world" is more modern for this matter ? I sure hope that CMAS will stay as it is concerning deco and training. When I read the posts of divers trained with PADI for instance and their non understanding of deco dives I feel the CMAS divers are way more "modern" and safer in their practice

The guide I was with on this dive today did not go into deco, stayed shallower and ended the dive with around 40 bar. You can see after 40 minutes the depth was pretty shallow the last ten minutes of the dive was less than 10m depth.

The CMAS course standards seem to be quite vague about decompression training and don't say much about safety limits or standard procedures or gas planning or required equipment. All of the details are apparently left up to the affiliated national organizations. How is it actually done in France?

Surely you understand the the "rest of the world" does not mean just PADI?

That's not a gas loss and a bounce dive clears quickly.
