Congratulations to Erika Lopez for being named the 2024 Sea Hero of the Year. She is the Director and Cofounder of Biodiversity Conservation Colombia and works to protect the Malpelo Flora and Fauna Sanctuary. @Dan and I were lucky to meet her during our trips to Malpelo in 2021 and 2023. In 2023 she spent time sailing with us on the Colombia Dive Adventures Ferox.

Guardians of Malpelo
Colombia has some of the strictest illegal fishing laws in the world, but people still need to stand up and enforce them. Erika Lopez has taken on the role of guardian of Malpelo, an island 314 miles (506 kilometers) west of Colombia.
