I am in the process of buying new equipment. I just bought an Oceanic Versa Pro. I didn't buy it from my LDS. I ordered it from ScubaToys. My store pointed out that they would not be able to service it for me because they don't sell Oceanic. In fact, no one in my area does. I'll have to send it off for service. I want a Zeagle Zena BC but no one here can service that either. Should I reconsider for something that is locally servicable? How big of a deal is this to everyone?

One of my LDS does reg service by mail order and does a huge business as a result of it. I wouldn't have problem sending my reg out for service. Of course, this does prevent you from getting any last minute, "emergency" repairs. But as far as regular maintenance goes, it wouldn't be an issue for me.

I would buy it from ScubaToys as well. You are in Texas, so turnaround/shipping time would be short.

Absolutely not a consideration for the computer. There is almost no service the LDS can provide anyway, as long as you can change the battery.

There are 25 Zeagle dealers listed in TX. For the rare occasion that a BC may need service, you should be able to find one.

Cool. Thanks. That just means I'll buy what I WANT rather that what I CAN buy.

I'm up in the panhandle by Amarillo and Lubbock. (still about an hour from those)

Amarillo has an Oceanic Dealer. I can get contact information for you.

Scuba Training Center: Ph 806-358-0727, ask for Kevin. My Oceanic computers go there every year for servicing along with my regs. I like for him to replace the battery (I put a "used" sticker on the old one and save it for a spare). Or you can send it back to ScubaToys, I'm sure.

I don't have my BC serviced. I rinse the inside with a bc cleaner after each trip and inspect it myself. If incurred a problem, I'd expect to ship it to the place of purchase or to the manufacturer.
