I am mainly interested in making a bit of extra money while doing some work for a dive shop. I'm just finishing my DM, and plan to take the IDC next year. Right now I have a full time day job, so working at a shop during regular business hours isn't a possibility, so I would like to look into working in the off hours doing equipment service. I tend to frequent scubaland, thats where I'm doing my divemaster, so I'll start asking around.

Then you need to become a "certified repair technician". Each brand of equipment offers tech certification training seminars for shop employees. You can go to a school to do this, but it can be expensive, an example:
