My friend Stephanie (www.cozumelweddingplanner.com) took these photos today, just four days after hurricane Emily.

"My special thanks go out to Gustavo Ortega Joaquin and Felix Gonzalez Canto AND everyone on the island of Cozumel, I am so impressed and proud!" Stephanie Skiba de Garcia

I DITTO Stephanie's sentiments! It is absolutely amazing at how fast the island is recovering!

I am also working up a "trip report" with pictures to share with everyone.

PS: What you may not be able to see in the 7th set of pictures down, is that there are five or six electric company trucks in a row...working on each line/pole that was down (look close in both pictures). There have been electric company trucks coming over everyday from the mainland to help. Yesterday, I counted over 15 coming off the car ferry! It was like an electric company parade. Everyone was clapping as they pulled out of the ferry terminal.

Christi,

Thanks for the pictures. My wife was there through the hurricane and got out for a trip to Chedauri a couple of days after it hit. She told me that there were lots of poles and lines down.

I was really impressed by the concrete power poles that were snapped off. Considering that we only lost an aluminum door on the second floor we were very lucky.

Headed back next Friday for two more weeks of work on the house and a little diving.
I'll try and stop by your shop one afternoon.

It looks like things are shaping up quickly. I hope that word gets out that everything is OK and the tourists come streaming back.
By the way, how nice were the few days without any pods?

Considering that we had no electricity and were doing major clean-up, I didn't even notice.

The cruise ships were the first to come back though...and it was OBVIOUS when they were back. It's a good thing though...at least SOMEONE has business :)

Hi Christi,

Good to hear all is good and the damage wasn't as bad is it could have been (the satellite imagery was scary). Thanks for the pics...

Good luck

Thank you so much for posting those photos, Christi. I had seen all the "before" and was rather discouraged. Now seeing the massive and rapid repairs, I'm very excited and looking forward to our upcoming trip.

Does anybody know where that photo 2nd from the bottom was taken (with the orange half-wall in the before)? It looked like La Choza in the before, but not the after. Just wondering since that's always our 1st stop.

I must say I'm so impressed by the spirits of the residents I've seen posting on this site and other forums, as well as their incredible efforts to rebuild. I can't wait to get back in the water and contribute to the local economy in 10 days!

Thanks!

Christi, glad ya'll survived Emily with out much loss. Was keeping up with the storm. It looked like it was going to be a bad on for ya'll being on the leading edge. I was in Cozumel in mid May and recognize many of the places in the pictures. Glad clean up is going so well.

Thanks for the pictures. Glad to hear everyone made it through safely. We left Coz. (Occ Grand) on the 12th. Looking forward to coming back. How did the restaurants (casa Denis and such) fair through the storm. Good to know the reefs are intact also.
