However, you may be doing both the other divers on this board and perhaps the business itself a much greater service by just posting it publicly. I know that if I owned/operated a business I would want to know if my practices were isolating my marketplace.

In the "dive shop world" with many dive shops, they think that they can do no wrong and "their way of doing things" is the "only way" and that all the other shops are doing it wrong.

so I doubt posting it would change anything with most shops.....

I've never seen an industry that gets so competitive with other local (or internet) shops that they bad mouth each other so much and think their way of doing it is the only way and all the other shops are wrong. Some will even go as far as saying "you will die if you buy any gear from them" (because their gear is bad).

it's ridiculous.... It's an "Ego run" business/industry....

If the above mentioned shop really wanted to improve its customer service, it would have found ways of doing it already w/o folks posting it here.... (just my opinion).

Well, speaking from someone who works at a dive shop, i have never heard any negatives about any of the shops in the area, in fact i offen find myself sending customers and calling other shops to see if they can help with charters and different equipment. I tell people all the time that i don't care where they get their gear, take their classes, or get their boat trips from as long as they go diving. That might just be my view, but i think its the same for anyone who loves the sport. Would i like them to get their stuff and take classes with me, of course, but not at the expense of another shops reputation by saying anything negative about the sport and the people who support it. I think this thread just got off on a tangent from what it was started for, haha. I hope every has a great weekend and gets some tanks wet!

SeaYoda, I'd like to hook up with you and dive the Destin Jetties the next time you go. ...

If I get enough advance warning about my schedule at work I post threads in the trips and marketplace subforum. Keep an eye out for my next Destin adventure.

No matter who you go with, you will be bathed in emerald green water full of life.

Thanks for all of the info. What is amazing to me isn't the information that people posted here, it is the volume of information that I got via PMs. There are a lot of people out there that have had a lot of bad experiences with the shops, however they chose not to post them publicly. There was one shop in-particular that got many bad reviews. They were sent to me privately and in confidence so that is how they shall remain. However, you may be doing both the other divers on this board and perhaps the business itself a much greater service by just posting it publicly. I know that if I owned/operated a business I would want to know if my practices were isolating my marketplace.

To the people who mentioned some shore diving, both publicly and via PM - I will send my cell phone number to you when I arrive on Saturday, 6/28. We will probably pull in around noon and I will log in then. We can schedule something depending on the weather.

Well, just take it for what its worth. People with problems comment more than people who got expected service. And theres two sides to every story.

I'd also have to wonder why they'd be afraid to take their complaints public. Perhaps it's because they caused their own problem and their complaint is really just sour grapes (which I believe turns into whine after fermenting).

Thanks wjefferes but she cannot see anyways and I am not far behind her. We do OK, you locals pay to go out and we just head out into the open Gulf in our little Whaler all alone and half blind.

I am sure the OP can see from my little pics a little of what they might see themselves whomever they choose to go out with, if they ever leave the pass that is-lol.
