I don't think that you can find egyptian pounds in anywhere else but Egypt. In Egypt you can exchange money from any place, there are places accept dollars in there transactions.

Mania, I don't know where you tried, but my maestro (debit) card works with every ATM I have come across in Egypt so far, and it's been quite a few (in Cairo, Luxor, Hurghada and Dahab). Or did I misunderstand something in your post?

I also noticed that silent conversion from $ to EUR with many shops - clever way to put up the prices, wonder what they will do should the EUR lose on the $ again - but I don't quite understand why this makes paying in EUR cheaper than in $?

it was an answer for Marek who is in Poland right now and it was due to the fact of later relation of Polish zloty to Euro....
Sorry for creating this misunderstanding.
