It's interesting all the calls I've gotten from friends and relatives out of state. I guess the way the news is portraying it, half of California is a rubble pile and there's a mass exodus from the state.

awww no fair~ I'm jealous!!... Felt nothing on Camp Pendleton.. of course I was in the pool all morning with 32 kids, so that in itself was equal to an earthquake.. :shakehead:

a mass exodus from the state.

Where can I get a ticket that does not involve the freeway? My floor was not even level for walking. Nobody has called me. Of course, nobody knows where I am, lol.

I can't believe we thought these crappy old buildings were cool.... not so much now. Mostly, I am afraid of being in some ghetto New Orleans scene, with people trying to steal my water and guns, lol. Jimbo from Hawaii has put these ideas in my head, telling me to get 5K in ones, lol.

How should I "prepare" -- if this building goes, my car will be underground in a heap of concrete? Storing stuff in here does not seem like it would help much. I'd like a helicopter on the roof...that's what I want.

70% chance of an 8.8 in the next ten years? Couldn't ya'll get that over with the nine I have been gone? isn't this scale an algorythm or something? They say it was 1% of the Northridge quake? I don't get that. I need an earthquake primer, please.

so 7.1 to 7.2 is how much stronger?

Overly simple answer- an 8.0 would be ten times stronger than a 7.0.

There has been 2 other earthquakes since I moved to California. I was in Colorado for one, and Airborne for the other. Well, today, I was waiting at the hanger for the plane to get fixed and hey, the ground dropped. ***? I didn't drink that much last night!

Long story short, I thought it was a bit over rated. I have been waiting 7 years for that? sheesh. I know it wasn't northridge, but this wasn't too bad. Sorta fun I think! My girlfriend called me when I got home to report the damage. The fish tank was good, but her purse did fall off the coat rack. Pure carnage I tell you!

No freeway? Thats easy if you have several days........

That stuff won't start for a couple days.........gives you time to get the hell out of town....(or reload).

Keep shoes, some food and a bit of water in your car if you can so if it's accessible, you'll have that. And an earthquake stash where you can get to it if doors are jammed, or all the stuff in the rafters falls into your garage.

Stronger is such a relavent term. Yes, a 6.0 is 10 times stronger than a 5.0. But in perspective, a 7.0 is 100 times stronger than a 5.0. To simulate the power of a 5.0, it would take 32 Kilotons of TNT- this is about the same power as the Nagasaki atomic bomb. A 6.0 would take 1 Megaton of TNT, and a 7.1 would take 50 megatons, or the energy released equivalent to that of Tsar Bomba, the largest thermonuclear weapon ever tested (stats from USGS docs). Obviously without the same results. It's all in how the energy is dissipated and expands from the epicenter. This was really a mild one, I think. Rollers are easier than shakers. Shakers are usually loud, and have more damage from stuff bouncing around.

The good news is, now that this ones over (except for th inevitable 3AM aftershock), you'll only have to listen to the predictions of "The Big Ones Coming!" for the next few weeks. The said the same after Sylmar in '71, and every 5.0+ since, and we're still here.

" an 8.0 would be ten times stronger than a 7.0."
And 100 times stronger than a 6.0.
Park your car in an open lot, away from buildings and big trees.
"5K in ones" That's a lot of strippers!
Seriously, $500 in 5s and 10s.

Driving on the 241 in Tustin.
I wondered why I changed lanes... ;)

Was on speakerphone conference with our WH there and heard it over the phone then it knocking my co-worker off his chair.

Hope all’s ok….Catherine, whatcha doing in CA? Didn’t you know they have earthquakes there? :D

I was doing a job at Disneyland and had just come down from a ten foot ladder not five minutes before it hit, guess my timing was lucky. Lots of guests in the park thought it was better than most of Disneys attractions!

I've been on toilets that are better rides than most Disney attractions!:D
