Hi, I recently acquired my first Aqua Lung Legend first stage regulator (used). When I shake it axially, something rattles like being loose. Is this bad? The regulator works and I have only cleaned the surface corrosion from it. It is not badly corroded, just some white areas.

Thanks in advance!

A sealed diaphragm regulator has an ambient diaphragm that transmits water pressure to the ambient push rod. When under the water it is expected to flex and make proper contact with the push rod. However when on the surface the diaphragm is flat and the ambient push rod will rattle. It is normal and not a defect in assembly of the regulator.

I believe the outer diaphragm should be slightly concave (inwards); you should install it (last part only) while the first stage is pressurized
But I’m referring to generic sealed diaphragm 1sts, maybe there is something is different with instructions there for the legend 🤷🏽‍♀️

The 2 important things:
- does it leak (bubble test)?
- does it transmit ambient pressure (via the push rod) to main diaphragm properly (and in turn translates to absolute IP rise under depth)?

If these functions are carried out properly, it works properly
Sadly the 2nd one you can only test on a dive or in a pressure pot of you have one (adhd branch: i also don’t have one, anyone has diy instructions on how to build one? That doesn’t go boom 😅)

did the tech reinstall the dry seal correctly that the seal is concave ie sucked in while unpressurized
100%
Yesss, overlooked this
