Apparently this morning there was an earthquake out in the Gulf, 280 miles west of Fort Myers, 6.0 magnitude. I havent heard much about it, except that they do not expect a tsunami from it.

I felt some mild movement at my piling house on Fort Myers Beach Sunday morning. This place has cement pilings and usually does not move at all. Even during high winds it takes a lot to move the building.

I looked on Google News and found a few reports about it. Here's the one from CNN.

I felt it. I thought to myself "earthquake?"

It seemed to me it lasted about 10 seconds all together, and I actually felt it rock my office chair east and west.

Wild.

That explains why my desk and laptop was shaking this morning. I thought maybe an airplane flew over my house... every now and then a C-5 will fly over... or maybe a big gust of wind... but, I went outside and heard nothing but the standard sounds of a Sunday morning... a lawn mower here and there...

We were out diving off Clearwater,Florida about 20 miles out this morning.
When the earthquake shook,I thought it was a passing boat with
loud stereo.
No surge felt, but the shockwaves followed the booming sound by
several seconds.
Didn't even know about the quake 'til I got back in.
All in all, No Big Deal.
Just another interesting dive particular for the dive log.

P.S.
From about 2-8 miles out we ran through many dead fish (bottom dwellers)
No doubt that this was red tide and not quake related or even caused
by the many jellies we had to dive through (near the surface)

Let's just pray that it is not a harbinger of things to come. I didn't even think there was a fault line in the Eastern Gulf.

Lets be glad the fault running across the state of Florida wasn't
the one that slipped.
Just imagine being inside a cave for one of those !!!

I was diving about 30 miles west of Fort Myers Beach all morning. Didnt feel a thing. Weird.

Were you under the water when the quake hit?
And did you run across and dead fish (unrelated subject)
