Greetings to all. I am new to water sports and just found this site while trying to find products. I snorkel for fun and the wonderous views. My problem stems from the pressure on my ears at what you guys may find minimal depths of ten to fifteen feet. Question? Are ear plugs a good idea and if so, what should I ask for? If not however, what can be done about the pain?

Thanks in advance and I hope to be hearing from a few good divers.

Bless.

Learn to equalize. (Google 'Valsalva'). Very simple. Gets simpler with practice.
Ear plugs are NOT a good idea. In fact, they can be dangerous and inhibit equalizing when diving.

15 feet is not minimal. It's almost half an atmosphere -- enough to do damage without equalizing.

Good luck.

I use the vented ear plugs for diving and they seem to work great and made it easier to equalize

the thing about equalizing your ears, is to do it early, and often... DO not wait until you feel pain. If you are planning on going diving, and you have not been for awhile, you should practice equalizing your ears for several days prior to diving...

You might want to consider taking a skin diver course through a dive shop. You will learn ear clearing and other helpful techniques for diving while snorkeling.

welcome

just got my wife some (i hope i can say a brand?) DOCS PRO PLUGS (vented of course) she hasn't used them yet, so we don't know if they really work. i've heard good things about them. check them out and see if it's for you

DO NOT use ear plugs as you can damage your ear drums. not only is this on the diver manual, but it is also part of the US Navy diver manual... that said get accustomed to equalizing early and often....

Yea I want to say the safe ones are called Doc's Pro Plugs

Welcome to the boards :)
