I used to get an ear infection nearly every time my ears got wet. In the late 70's, I started putting hydrogen peroxide in each ear as soon as I started feeling any type of pain. It always cleared it up.
Uh, there's been some evidence that H2O2 is not good for the ears. Anyone remember the story on that. Alcohol and vinegar, or just commercial swiimersear.

For the last 10 or so years I have used swimear type of drops. Doesn't matter if I am diving in the Ohio River, a swimminy pool or the Cayman Islands. I use them everytime I get out of the water and have not had an ear problem in the last 10 years.

PS. If you start antibiotics, you MUST continue to take them as prescribe until they are gone. There can be serious problems if you stop taking them halfway through the dosage, even if you feel/get better, its the next go-arround that you can have problems. Just FYI
True, of course, and - women should also pursue yeast prevention at the time, too.

But get the hydrocortozone/anitbiotic ear drops, too! Helps with the infection, and the pain, while the oral meds are attacking systemically. And treat both ears, even if only one hurts. Had hell getting to sleep last night!

I'm on 7 days with my prescription drops (Neomycin & polymyxin B with Hydrocortisone). My pain subsided after ~4 days of using the drops. I still feel as my ear is plugged up with fluid, but don't feel pain anymore. I will continue using the drops for the prescribed 10 days... hopefully this fluid drains out of my ear soon! I'm looking forward to the big pop to come! I wanna start diving again!!!!

:D Reminds me of the final Seinfeld episode where Krammer has water in his ear. He starts jumping up and down on the plane to get it out and causes and emergency landing. His ear finally pops when they are sitting in jail at the end.

 I can just see that! I've not allowed TV in my home since 1988, so I miss the rare show worth watching.

This has been my worst bout with an ear infection; bet I never forget to use alcohol again! I wonder, though - I've never had a problem equalizing all thru this, just sleeping with pain. Anyway, the swelling will go down, then your ears will drain and feel normal again. I'm looking forward to it.

When they are really wel, I'll irrigated with an ear syringe, to wash out wax that's been accumlating, and then - the alcohol! :lol2:
