As of this morning!
FWC are very close to finally rolling out the Chassahowitzka SCUBA diving rule. The likely go live date will be next week. Please stay tuned for this by checking the FWC website. FWC are working on a Diver Fact Sheet (DFS) to help clarify what the rule does and does not specify and require, they plan on getting that DFS out early next week. In the meantime they gave provided some basic clarification based on our questions.
Nothing in the rule relates to closing the Eagles Nest site, The FWC Representative is not aware of any discussions at this time to close the site
The rule requires SCUBA divers to register. Registration is different from obtaining a permit, these terms (permit and registration) are not the same and not interchangeable
The rule requirement to register only applies to SCUBA diving and SCUBA divers
The rule/registration language includes several recommendations related to SCUBA diving training, these are recommendations only and not requirements
There is a requirement that all SCUBA divers be at least 18 years of age
There is currently no annual pass provision, each diver must register for each separate dive
The registration process will be online and no cost, however the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) entry fee will still apply
FWC will forward the link to the online registration site soon
SCUBA diver registration information will be clearly posted on signs at the WMA entry/check station and at the Eagles Nest site
This FWC rule requiring SCUBA divers to register to dive pertains only to Chassahowitzka WMA
I hope this information helps,
