Looks like an old post... but I figured I'd share my experience.
I had an extra tank so I went down to Dug Pond figuring what-the-hey.

I kayak and fish her quite a bit since it's so close to home. Water temp is generally pretty warm and clear.

I parked on the north side parking lot and swam top side until about 100 yards from the point by the high school.
I dropped down and hit thermocline after themocline. Damn was it cold! I watched my computer and saw that I was around 30-ish feet and couldn't see a thing without my computer backlight.

I turned on my dive light (glad I brought it!) and tried to look around. Nothing. Couldn't see a thing. I reached out in from of me to feel around for the bottom. Turns out I had just sunk waist deep in silt and mud! Ikicked and inflated my BC until I thought I was above the muck but I stirred up too much gunk that I couldn't see anything. I decided to call the dive. Nothing to see, cold and silted out.

I've thought about going back and starting the dive from shore dropping there, maybe even from the south side boat launch. Maybe this summer if I have an extra tank again.

Thanks for the update. Sounds just icky! Also reminds of me of my time diving in Loebs Pond Central Park - you sink into the mud and you can't see anything!

Cheers,

X
