"Anyway after the days diving I noticed my neck was sensitive , got home and looked in the mirror, and there was a line around the side of my neck. It looked like I survived a hanging. Took about a week to heal, scabbed up and all. Haven't had a problem since, but you can bet that I make sure the neck seal is in place properly !!"

this basically is what happens, about a week to heal is right, it does not happen on my wrists at all. The longer I wear the suit the worse it gets. I am going to check for an allergy, but it seems either way I'll have to switch to neopreme seal for the neck. Thanks to all, I though I was the only one having this problem.

My neck does not itch though, like the link that was provided suggests, so humm, maybe shave teh seal a little, but no my veins are not buldging so I kinda doubt that its too tight. It seems that the rubbing as I turn my head just irritates it more and more. hum...

Thanks Everyone for your replys

Dude, check your seal before diving, if it is like I described , you might be dealing with the same thing as me. How many times has this happened to you? The longer the dive, the more pronounced the line, because it had no circulation for a longer time.

ointment or hand cream prior to the dive? I would get the same thing but not as bad and I think it was from the friction against the skin. I started putting Lubriderm hand lotion (yes it has two uses) on my neck 30 minutes before the dive and the problem went away. Make sure you are healed up before you try this since I think it will help harbor any bacteria thats in the water.
I wouldn't alter the suit if you don't feel any uncomfortable constriciton from the neck seal.

"How many times has this happened to you? "

it happens every single dive, and the longer teh dives teh worse it gets. the seal is not folded over, its clean. and I agree it does seem to be from rubbing.

WHAT KIND OF OINTMENT?

I'll try the lubriderm.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but new to scubaboard and I have been having the drysuit neck abrasion problem for awhile. Does the lubriderm really work? It gets so bad on multiday trips that on the last few dives it stings underwater. Going to work the next week is really great as I got tired of explaing the piano wire strangle line around my neck and resorted to turtlenecks and more recently scarves. I have tried tons of powder before the dive, sometimes it works and other times not. I wonder if it has something to do with sweating under the seal also. I guess next trip I will watch to see if the seal is folded or the skin is pinched.

If anyone had had luck with anything else....other than going to a neoprene seal, I would love to hear about it. Same as the others there is no problem with my wrists.

Thanks
Karen

Have you tried baby shampoo disolved in water in a spray bottle?

Some use KY Jelly, though you have to be able to deal with some strange looks :)

Other than that, neoprene may be the way to go. It's certainly a ton warmer and a lot more comfortable.

Thanks,

I will try the dissolved baby shampoo or KY jelly next weekend when I go to CA. The strange looks I would get from bringing out the KY on the boat can't possibly be worse than the one's I get after a trip with the dreaded strangle marks.

Thanks Again
Karen

The KY Jelly, baby shampoo just didn't work so I sent suit out to a different company to get a new latex neck seal. Not real sure if it was the different latex material or possibly the bigger bellows on the new seal but I had no strangle marks at all after a weekend of diving!!!

I think it might have been that there wasn't enough material on my old seal so when I turned my head it stretched the skin causing the strangle marks. The new seal has much more material. Or it was just a different grade of latex? Hard to tell which one? Anyway I am happy to report that I don't have to change to neoprene neck seals and I can retire the scarfs and turtle necks. Thought others with the same problem might be interested.
