The type of drysuit you want to get is a shell drysuit. This means the suit is made from a non-compressable material like bi-lam, tri-lam, or compressed neoprene. Other dictations from on high I am unaware of...

A substantial amount of time in a GUE-F course is dedicated to reviewing equipment configurations. With respect to dry suits, the current recommendations are:

• Tri-laminate construction
• Telescoping, self-donning design (no shoulder zippers)
• Pockets on each leg (side of leg); loop in pocket for accessories
• Turbo soles
• Shoulder dump
• P-valve (for the guys)
• Good flexibility and range of motion

what are turbo soles?

It's a marketing name for a specific manufacturer's (DUI) integrated boot system. The alternative is a sock and separate boot (such as DUI's Rock Boot system).

Here's an article on the DUI website that was originally published in DIR Quest. It provides some details on the specific dry suit configuration used by WKPP divers.

DUI’s TLS350: The Exploration Suit of Choice

Note that this is merely one example. There are plenty of good suits from various manufactures that would fit the basic criteria.

great article. thank you for sharing

So you dont have to have a DUI drysuit to conform with DIR. So would the Bare Trilam HD tech work?
Contrary to popular belief, DIR tends to focus more on features of gear rather than specific brands of gear (it's just the some brands have historically been more "suitable" than others - sorry, that was a really bad pun :rofl3:). As to the Bare suit - I have never actually seen the suit, but based on the info on the Bare website, I would say it should work fine.
