If you fill it full of “stuff”, you will likely be stopped by a federale on the road and pay an import tax.

Pay the tax, it’s usually less than $100, and negotiable. Unless it’s at a border check station, than it’s less negotiable.

Do not ask for a receipt. You can try the second time to explain how you already paid the tax, but in the end, pay the tax again.

Do not get offended.
All of my cave gear is in Tulum in storage. My wife will fly down so minimal stuff in the truck.

My wife and I drive down to Mexico once a year for the last 5-6 years. Sanborn's is recognized as one of the best insurance companies and I have heard they have excellent customer service if their assistance is actually needed. Fortunately we have never needed our insurance yet!

Just stick to the main highways and don't drive at night!

Thanks. Where do you drive to?

Will be driving my Ram 1500 with tinted windows and no guns!!

Yeah. Def, no guns unless you're willing to kill someone. A gun should never be used as a threat, only a weapon.

Oh, and try to get a bumper-sticker that says, "Not a Mormon".

A buddy of mine frequently had to work in Mexico. To get from the airport to job sites he got picked up by what was basically an armed escort service. They picked him up in fast V8 American cars and drove pedal to the metal until they got where they were going.

He eventually told his employer he would not do it anymore because it was so scary. And he was of Mexican decent!

Perhaps you could take some holidays and meet me in Texas... My wife will fly down and meet me there. You and I can dive.
I do appreciate the offer, I grew Close to the border spending many of my teen aged weekends in Mexican border towns and everything they had to offer.

I'll have to pass. I have an allergy to incoming bullets!

I wish you the best of luck and hope you will do a daily write up of the adventure, but until the border climate changes and the cartels calm down, I'm gonna have to nope out on that one. If you want a steak as you come through Oklahoma, I can help you out with that.

Safe travels.

Jay
