I'm posting this in this forum because I'm not sure it's responsible for the diving forums....but frankly, I kinda like to have a few "pops" now and then. I know I'm kind of an old fa#t that doesn't do the smokes or hard drugs, but a few beers is OK with me. In fact, a dive trip for me is not complete without a cooler and a couple cold ones for the trip in. Some folks will probably say that their high was the dive, but for me every high that I ever had in life was celebrated with a drink or two. Is this inconsistent with diving, or just inconsistent with being "PC" today?

To answer your question, yes drinking is inconsistant with diving if done before the dive. The above thread discusses some of the reasons why.

Dive safe.

But that thread seemed to get into the "PC" thing.

I was trying to get to the fact that in my experience a lot of folks like to party after the fact.....but not a lot like to admit it.

Golfers find it OK to have a few cold ones in the cart.....why do divers find it hard to admit it?

I've known a lot of "professional divers" in the water every day with foks that love a couple cold ones at the tiki bar after the day was done.....in fact they celebrated another day with no casualties.

I didn't see that in the thread you referenced.....kinda the opposite?

I don't see anything wrong with a drink after diving (I miss read your post) The only issue comes into hydration for the next day of diving and the lasting effects of hangover on your reaction times.

With moderation a cold one to debrief the dive is a nice way to fill out that log book.

Dive safe.

What about during the Dive? Just Kidding!

I did run into a guy at 90 feet drinking a Capri Sun once!
He even offered me some!
(I politely declined)

Uuuhh, i golf and dive and the only thing in danger of getting bent in my golf game is the clubs or possibly my attitude.:bonk:

Seriously, dehydration has been proven to be a major contributor in causing DCI. Drinks with booze dehydrate you faster than most drinks without booze. IMO, nothing PC about it, just facts.

Most dive pros know this and remain properly hydrated, regardless if they drink booze after diving or they don't remain dive pros for long. The point is to remain well hydrated, no matter what your social habits are.

Personally, i will admit to possibly being PC with students and drinking. I won't drink with or around current students as IMO it sends a bad message after you just got done telling them drinking and diving don't mix. Makes for a lot of questions when they cease being students and become dive buddies but most understand moderation, common sense and hydration.

FYI, if you ever see me at a tiki bar, after diving, with a beer, you will see a glass or bottle of water sitting right next to it.
