It is kind of funny that in the diving world today we are worried about drinking after a dive. Back in the "old days" some of these pioneers use to jump in the water fully tanked and not give it a second thought. Now we as a dive community have come full circle and are more concerned about the physical aspects of the sport. It's kind of amazing that the sport has gotten to this level in such a relatively short period of time.

There are some that still do... and I won't dive with them. Even back in the 60's I didn't drink before diving. Of course I wasn't legal until 1968 (except for beer in Wisconsin in '65). Oops, maybe my memory is playing tricks on me... yes, there were occasions in the 66-68 period where I did go up to Wisconsin and return early in the morning on days I had to do shallow dives. I was a bad boy!

I only have a couple buddies who have a beer after diving. Better than 75% of my buddies don't drink at all.

Mine too. There are those occasions, usually on a summer Sunday (when I know I won't be diving the next day) that I'll break down and have a buffalo milk (or three) at the Casino Dock Cafe. Of course someone else is always buying since I don't carry cash in my wetsuit!

Now on days when I anticipate no diving at all for a few, I can swill ouzo, sake or Scotch with the best of them. Those days are few and far between since I dive so much of the time.

Youngun's may get away with more boozing and diving. I saw a lot of it on my dive travels. Old farts like me (even if we look in our 30's or 40's) need to take care of our temple!

Those guys also had a bit of a tendency to not come back from a dive now and again, and to go for chamber rides on an almost routine basis. I think I like our way better. :cyborg:

after a day of diving - 2 shots of Tequilla is a must :) . Good food. walking in the town - or some other place where I don't need to drive....
Yes, water drinking too - unless i really want to get drunk and don't dive next day ( bad idea indeed ).

Is there any danger of drinking alcohol after diving?
Where I dive, we're all agreed that the first cold beer after the last dive on a hot day is the best one you'll ever have.

And yes, Virginia, alcohol after diving can be dangerous, but only if you stand between the fridge and the crush of thirsty divers. :D

I love to get Bent after a couple of dives...... :06:
I'm not saying to get out of the water and start doing shots. But by the time the boat gets back to the dock and you've rinsed your gear and cleaned up a bit, what harm is a cold brew two or three hours after a dive? I realize the gymrats and moralists will have their take on this, I'm talking about normal, everyday people.

I think there is enough anecdotal evidence out there to say that one or two drinks after diving is a relatively low risk activity. Just don't go on a bender, and don't get yourself hung over if you are diving the next day, and all should be fine. :)
