That's what I do on liveaboards. Takes less than 10 seconds to plug in the charger after a dive and then go eat lunch. Same for unplugging and ready to get in for the next dive. No opening the DPV where it may get splashed or dripped in with water, no removing batteries, no cleaning and lubing the seals before reassembly and most importantly, no being late to meals dealing with gear!I'd much rather charge a Genesis on a boat than swap PTBs.
For the record I will state I have two genesis 3.1's in the garage. Love them both - one is "the girlfriends" aka my backup / loaner.
The one thing the PTB Cudas have the other scooters is all day unlimited range boat diving. I have a buddy/friend with a pair if Cuda X's (one big one little) and ~20 12ah DeWalt PTBs and an on-boat 4 bank charger for them. Him + our Blacktip friends can dive virtually unlimited dives and charge backup batteries between dives. Sure, they're swapping on the boat in a salt water environment, but they also run the scooters hard for 60+ minutes zipping over the reef without a care in the world about needing more juice.
Its a niche use case for sure, but its the one thing stopping him from swapping his Cuda's for a 3.1 and 3.2. He has considered putting a Genesis charger on the boat for spot charging during surface intervals however.
For sure - most of the time the Cuda's don't really get a break in between dives, thus the PTB swapping being crucial. If you have power to run a PTB charger, then you have power to run a Genesis charger...
The only way it might not work is if you're diving in shifts so the scooter is not really getting any break between dives other than the time it takes to swap batteries.
Genesis scooters charge from 20 to 80 (or more) percent really quickly. It's just that last 10-ish percent where it really slows down.
10 minutes of charging between each dive would probably be more than enough to run a Genesis 3.1 all day on boat dives if it started the day with a full charge.
