Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a good doubles regulator set. I originally wanted to just match an mk17/g260 that I already have and buy a few wrenches to change it between my recreational set up and tech setup as necessary. But then I got looking around and found this: Hollis DRIS DubZ Package | Dive Right In Scuba - Plainfield, IL - Dive Right in Scuba which I can get for less than a new mk17/g260 and was wondering if people think that its a good deal and what people think of the hollis DC3/212 and how they will hold up at depth in cold water (I do a lot of great lakes diving). Should I just buy another mk17/g260 or buy these? Or is there a better doubles setup I should get? Any input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

my criteria for a second stage in cold water (I too dive the Great Lakes) is, at a minimum, a metal air barrel. I can't tell if the Hollis has one or not...

FWIW - MK-17/G250v is my current configuration.

Yeah like I said I could either buy one more mk17/g260 to match my current recreational set to complete a doubles set and use some wrenches to move them as necessary between recreational and technical diving or I could just buy a whole new set. So I was wondering people's opinions. I don't need it today so I could wait until next year.

As someone who has gone through this, once you start diving doubles you really don't "switch" that often--basically for travel to the Caribbean. I assume your Mk17 is DIN, if that is the case, I would look to pick up another MK17/g260 combo. Message the online shops, I have never paid full retail for a regulator and you should look to get about 25% off MSRP.

I have a buddy or two that dives Hollis, but I have never been a fan of their stuff. It always looks and feels cheaply made to me. I like their fins, and masks, and a few other knick knacks, but regs and dry suit...no way. I have a hollis aluminum backplate that I am probably going to have to replace because it has started cutting into my webbing.

Hollis 212 2nd stage has platic air barrel. I had one before

If you already have mk17/g260, I would say get another one. Hollis, while may performance similar, it is not on the same level of quality of construction and workmanship. It is a OK reg for the price

I have a(n) Halcyon plate that is doing the same thing. Maybe they're all rigged by scheming webbing salesmen. Don't do anything rash.

I'd likely go the SP route... That being said (here comes the HOG "pitch"), I also have a set of HOG D1 cold water firsts and classic seconds that are quite happy in the cold water. Prices are friendly to put together a set dedicated for doubles.....

I would look at how much you are wanting to spend and what will the reg be used most for. I personally use Apex for all of my regs and I have had great luck with them. I know some guys who dive Hollis, but I am not a fan of the regs.

Just get another set of Mk17/G260.
However, you will find certain 1st stage offer better routing than others eg. Mk25, Apeks DST/FSR etc etc.
