Double tanks means double regulators?

Single outlet Manifold. US Divers still makes them for the US Navy. Also about every 2 years we get a big long bid sheet from the S. Korean Navy looking for diving equipment and invariably those single outlet manifolds are on it.


This particular one has been around for decades. It has a reserve valve on it (J-valve)

I wouldn't advise going with this manifold. I think it's better to keep your eyes focused on the goal and buy the manifold you eventually will need. If you buy something like this then you'll end up replacing it on short order and spending more money than you need to.

You can attach one reg to a set of doubles, you just don't attach the other side. You lose any advantage in redundancy that the double could have given you so it's kind of pointless to set it up like this but it is possible.

The best thing is to buy two regs.

There is a diving exhibition in a week or two, and well what I meant by the LDS was a dubai dealer based in Oman. Planning to go for DIR courses so I thought of just buying the stuff in one go. I have seen double bottled rig but thought there was always a valve or two that would overcome that.

I'll just replace wings when I need to go for doubles then. I'll buy the Pioneer wing instead and work my way to the Explorer when I'm ready. oh gosh JS1SCUBA .150K, does your equipment do your taxes for you? I still can't imagine what you would have bought with that!

Just out of curiosity, why are you going with Halcyon if there is no dealer in your area? When I emigrated from Canada to the Netherlands with some bits of gear the Dutch had never seen before I had nothing (and I mean nothing) but headaches getting things serviced. I eventually sold it all off and replaced it with stuff I can get serviced locally. My BP/W are from Diverite for this reason.

Also, I'm curious why you're buying twins right now. It sounds to me like you would be just as well off with a moderate sized single tank rig. Do you have a particular reason for this choice?

Maybe I"m missing something but I don't quite get it.

A Pioneer will not work with doubles. The wing is specific to the tank, not the other way around. Get a pair of single tanks, a single reg, and a singles wing.. then upgrade to doubles later if your diving dictates it.

Over the years ........

compressors, gas boosters, analyzers, dive computers, regulators, 4 dry suits, 8 or so wet suits, a dozen masks, 14 sets of doubles, 40 or so singles, probably 25 or more regulators, and the list goes on and on, oh a rebreather here, deco systems there, test chamber, tools, ......... oh and probably 10k in cameras, cupla scooters.

Step up.... pet the pony.

That's what I wanted to clarify with the second post. I'll buy the pioneer and then upgrade to doubles later. I thought that maybe I should go for the doubles right away. I decided to build up eventually.

I think there is a Dive Rite dealer here but orders are by request and take time. Halcyon dealer is in Oman. I have close friends in Oman and everyday or two they drive here so there is no problem with transportation.


Js1scuba do you use all those? I read ur "SB name" What exactly is a diving technologist

The outlet is on the bottom, which means that the regulator is protected by the tanks and the manifold. The J valve is old, but still works and if your SPG crapped out for some reason, you could still have that 300 psi reserve to get you out. Steel 72's probably have a smaller diameter neck than the aluminum 80's we use, so this particular manifold would not work for your friend.

You might try a "cheater bar" that is the dual yoke valve. Some divers don't like it though....

AFAIK, both LP steel tanks and aluminum tanks have the same 3/4-14 NPSM thread.
