I'm thinking about picking up 2 of these for a primary/backup until I get a can light. Think they'll be good enough for the murky TX waters?

Edit: I just read the primary light for AOW thread and think this should be fine.

I received my 220's and played with one last night. It's not as focused as the 180's (wider beam) and doesn't appear as bright. It also has a dead spot in the center of the beam. Didn't get a chance to check the other three, might be a bad one.

I found somewhat the same thing. The 220 has a wider center spot, mine has no dead spot, the color is warmer (all compared to the Dorcy I 180) , and appears a little less bright. It may just be an effect of the difference in color and tightness of the beam. Both have adequate spill light.

The Dorcy I is bluer and has a more intense and narrower beam. The battery cartridge appears to be the same, the light head now is knurled making turning on and off easier, and the lanyard attaches to a hole in the side of the end. My first impression was that the hole was cut too close to the end and is very narrow at one point. The sharp edges are gone. And of course the lanyard is too flimsy, it's good for a camera on land but not for a dive light.

Overall the mechanics of the light have improved, but the light output was a bit disappointing.

I'm wondering if the change they made might have been to switch from the Cree XR-E to the XP-G? If so they could have made it brighter than 220 lumens but it would explain the reviews. A XP-G has a larger hotspot although that hotspot is slightly less bright and therefore doesn't project as far.

I don't think technical details are available are they?

According to the insert the Dorcy 2 uses the Cree Q4 LED.

I've checked all 4 of my lights and all are the same. Not nearly as bright as the 180's and all have the "donut" type hotspot with a dead area in the middle. Battery holder appears to the be same. All will be returned.

Might I suggest taking a look at the mbsub hand helds (golemgear.com) ? They're not quite a cheap ($) as the Dorcy's (of which I have no personal experience) but they're very high quality German lights....sometime ya get what ya pay for ! I do put my $ where my mouth is, over the last 3 months approximately, I've ordered $ 2200 worth of mbsub lights (3 delivered, 4th due in very soon from Germany) and I wouldn't spend that kind of $ on crap lights !
