Yes, we do not take money from anyone until after they have finished diving (except for as mall deposit which is refundable). Lets say you reserved 5 days of diving and fly down. You dive one day then get blown out because of even the threat of a hurricane. You only pay for the one day you did dive and we issue you credit for 4 more dives when you can return and not pay a dime. Same with the Villa Aldora, if you don't get to dive and have to spend a few more nights at the Villa Aldora those extra nights are free. That happens all the time even when it is only delayed flights, or ice storms in Dallas. Fair-Simple?

Very honest and simple policy. I guess you are successful for a reason in Cozumel. I have not had the pleasure of diving with your company but will make sure to do that in near future as we are planning to come down soon again and I am sure soon after that.

I went to Coz on a cruise once, and was booked to dive with Aldora. I got sick, called them the day before, and cancelled the dive. They hoped I felt better and refunded my deposit, no further questions asked and didn't give me a hard time. Much appreciated!

Dave,

Aldora isn't the only dive op on the island that only charges for dives delivered. This is common practice and, in fact, I can't think of a dive op that would charge for dives cancelled due to hurricanes or any port closure. Is there anyone on this board who can even think of a dive op that would refuse to refund for dives paid in advance and cancelled under such circumstances? Heck, can anyone here even name a dive op in Cozumel that requires full payment at the time of booking? I can't. If I came across one that did I'd wonder if that dive op is experiencing financial difficulties and would exclude them from my consideration immediately.

Furthermore, U.S. consumer protection laws as they relate to credit card holders and their use (which I assume everyone would use to pay with if they were diving with some crazy op that demands full payment at the time of booking) prohibit the card holder from being responsible for products/services not delivered. I've never seen a dive op with 10 pages of fine print to read through at the time of booking (like the airlines have) that would negate a claim to one's credit card company that the service was not delivered as agreed and a full refund of the charge for those services not delivered was not due .

For liability reasons, operators know it is not in their best interest to pressure people to dive

Yes, it's true most dive ops won't charge you for dives you didn't do if you get blown out, but what Dave is saying is that you don't pay for dives you had scheduled, but didn't dive or pay for. So, if I go to Coz for two weeks and arrange to do a two tank for 13 days with Aldora, when I get blown out on day 7, I pay for the 6 days of diving I did, but when I come back, the other 7 days of diving I couldn't do, I get to do for free. No charge. So, 7 days of two tank diving for no money out of pocket. Free.

Deepsea, you arent reading it slow enough. You not only get refunded any money spent on dives you didnt get but may have paid for or given deposit on, but you also get those same missed dives comped to you the next time you come to Coz.

THIS is NOT common practice, and do you know of any other dive op that does this?

Deepsea, some of the AI resorts pre sell 5 day 10 dive packages. If a dive is cancelled, the resort might give a voucher for dives in the future. If the diver misses a dive because they slept late, they still pay and do not get a voucher. They reserved a space that could not be sold to someone else and it is the same as if they went out on the boat and thumbed the dive.

The worst of all, Wilma , also formed first in the Caribbean in Oct 2005. Yes it can happen anywhere but as you may have noticed we have policies to mitigate the consequences to our divers and hotel guests.

Policies and safety for guests is a good idea. But if you remember, Keith just popped up. On Thurs it was a tropical depression. I woke up Friday morning, turned on the news to hear, "Huricane Keith is now a dangerous category 3".....and poof!! The power went off for a month.

Can you do something about the airfare to CZM? Even CUN has gotten to be prohibitive in cost. At least from ATL...

Right now Hou to Cancun is $98 each way and United is matching it fro IAH. Best of all times to visit Cancun/Cozumel
