Recent Hurricanes in the US and northern caribbean may scare a lot of people off of some of the best of all times to be in Cozumel. The water is still warm, the crowds thin, and availability is at an all time high. The fact is that the truly painful part of a hurricane is near the eye wall, the rest is just wind, unless you are subject to surge flooding—Cozumel is not due to the surrounding deep water. And in truth they are very rare here with the last one being 12 years ago. Indeed I don't recall even one day of diving lost to even the threat of a hurricane since 2005.

But like most sympathetic shops should do, Aldora Divers and the Villa Aldora offer "Hurricane Insurance". That is: If you miss a day of diving because of even the threat of a hurricane we of course don't charge you for the missed day but issue a raincheck for free-- anytime in the future for all missed dives. In addition, if you are staying at the Villa Aldora you will not have to pay for lodging for the days of diving missed.

For example, if you came down for a 5 day dive reservation and got blown out the first day all you have to do is get on a plane and go home. When you come back you would have a free 5 day diving package that would more than make up for the next airline tickets.

If this were not such a remote possibility I would be crazy to make such and offer, and never would for nortes in so called high season, which occur all the time.

So consider my confidence, and enjoy some of the best diving in Cozumel which is September and October.

But it is stupid to over look facts. No hurricanes in Cozumel for 12 years. Maybe we are due but no one has died here from a hurricane since 1988 with Gilbert because the island was not prepared. Add in Hurricane insurance and what is the risk?

Let me see if I understand this correctly: You said "free 5 day diving package" so how is that free if someone already paid for it? Do you refund the money and still offer 5 free days?

I believe Mr. Dave is offering a guarantee...which is quite unusual in the dive operation business. It's a good deal.

Yes, nobody ever pays for dives they don't do. The FACT is that if you miss a day of diving with Aldora because of even a threat of a hurricane you will get a free day in the future, without paying for that missed day. That is why we don't do packages, you only pay for what you dive on check out.

And yes I remember Wilma, been here since 92 and seen three hurricanes of consequence. Yes, Wilma was a real bitch but nobody died, and all tourists got off the island with plenty of warning. Those who missed dive days with Aldora were given FREE dives in the future without ever paying a centavo for dives missed. In some cases the value of the free dives were greater than the return airfare.

So what you're saying is that I should consider evacuating from Florida to Coz as Irma lays waste to my state! Not a bad idea. :D :D :D
