I'm going to invest in my own gear and have decided to go DIR.

I will be diving in a variety of temperatures and depths. Firstly I'll be diving around South Korea Which isn't all that warm, but after that I plan to be diving and doing a career development package in thailand for about eight months. Then I hope to working around s-e asia and do some wreck diving, before trying some cave diving.

So I really want a rig that'll be multi functional. That can be dived primarily single tanked but gives me the option of diving twin'd if I need to.

Can someone offer any advice as to what to buy?

You'll need a backplate (probably steel, but maybe aluminum or kydex) with hogarthian harness and a single tank wing with roughly 30 pounds of lift and second wing designed for doubles with about 40# lift if you'll be using double AL80's. If you go with big steel tanks and lots of stages, then you may need a bigger doubles wing. The brands you should look at include Halcyon, Deep Sea Supply, Oxycheck, Agir Brokk and Golem Gear to name a few that come to mind. There are many others.

Jarrod Jablonski's Doing It Right: The Fundamentals of Better Diving.

This is the book you want/need to read. Very good info in it. Your choice on BC well BP is the way to go , but you will need to buy two different wings , just worry about the single wing for now then buy the rest as you go into doubles.

Dress for Success by Dan McKay is also a book that will answer all of your questions concerning DIR gear choices.

You can find both books here ... https://secure.gue.com/catalog/order

great link, merci.

consider the small halcyon knife for the long hose loop tuck.

will they let you in DIR with that freaky avatar?

Don't tell me the DIR folks are starting to control avatars. I assume they want them all black. Just teasing, not a dig at DIR.

Thanks for the links, but what I'm really after is some reccomendations about specific brands, for example halcyon wings. Iv'e read both the books mentioned above but they're not really any help when it comes to choosing a specific model.

I was thinking of buying a doubles wing with a tank adapter, but I think I'll take your advice terrasmak and buy a single wing now and a doubles later. As I'll be travelling for at least the next few years and want to travel as light as possible.

Would anyone reccomend the Halcyon eclipse over the pioneeer or vice versa?

How about regs, again specific reccomendations would be nice as '...a good quailty reg' doesnt much help me.
