I agree with Mandy3206 get a very heavy dose of the kool aid and don't look back.:14:
As far as wings go I use an eclipse 30# wing for singles, very streamlined great feel and balance.(but since i got started with doubles and the evolve 60# wing I almost never dive singles any more)
Good luck I think you'll enjoy the dark path you have chosen!!:D

Quaff King,

I have great things to say about their service but the finishing was a nothing to shout about, first off it wasn't smooth, my al plate came with machining marks all over, like clamp marks, surface scratches and the slots were very sharp. Second it was not properly bent, one side was higher than the other. Not a real disaster but the quality could have been better IMO.

As for shipping it back, I live in Singapore, the shipping alone is the cost of the plate. Since, a plate's basically a plate, I didn't think too much about it and I may find a plate online on ebay from time to time so if I get the right deal, I'll ebay for another plate.

I agree the finish is not like a Halcyon or OMS. I took a little emory cloth to my slots for about 5 minutes and they were fine. For 99 bucks I was very satisfied with my purhcase and had no issue with the bends. I'm not really a stickler for asthetics however. Most of my gear looks like its three years old after the second dive!
If your plate shipped all the way to Singapore I'm amazed it still resembled a backplate.
. Thanks for the feedback

QK,

I have shipped tons of stuff to singapore and really the plates are tough enough to arrive here in perfect condition. The plate I received however, had it's defects from the point of manufacture. The crouch strap slot was dented, the numerous machining marks and the incorrect bent of the plate on one side. For $99 bucks you are right, a plate's a plate. However, I'm rather fussy bout my gear and I did expect better but it didn't matter underwater which is where it counts most.

The good thing about the plate is it's tough enough and thick enough to be there for my grand kids even if I'm no longer around LOL!

That koolaid thing needs to stop. It is entirely innapropriate and also disrespectful to the dead. It has nothing whatsoever to do with diving and should be kept out of these forums.

You need to relax... the koolaid thing is only a joke. It is not ment to offend anyone. If you feel it is offensive, then disregard the posts that say it. I can remember an offensive post of yours a while ago, I just ignored it.

Well I did not mean to hijack the thread. In any case, my offensive posts don't have anything to do with mass murders.

That said, if you are looking for DIR compatible gear out of the box I wholeheartedly recommend the Golem wings and Scubapro regs (hoses will need to be changed out). Only thing I had to change on my golem were the two chest D-rings, which are now two bent d-rings and cost all of $8 for both down at DIR headquarters.

You are right ~ IMHO, it would truly be a good thing for such a historically disrespectful and hurtful reference to disappear entirely from ScubaBoard.

While a few folks say they mean it as a joke, many more throw it out there as part of their derogatory 'DIR is a cult' message. This is primarily done by the folks who have decided that the DIR program has absolutely no place in their own diving (for whatever reason) and seem to feel the need to try to discourage others from pursuing this training

As a mod, if we tried to keep the koolaid reference out of these forums, those who want to put folks down for pursuing DIR training would raise even more of a stink than those who find the term offensive  We (as mods) can't even hope to please everyone. We make a serious effort to keep thesse forums friendly, but don't want to squash the debates and varying viewpoints either. So unless it's used as an ad hominum attack in some way, things like the koolaid reference are usually allowed to slide.

I have taken almost all of the DIR principles in my diving, just haven't dropped the money for the course. I still like to call it Koolaid diving.

Unless of course we were in the DIR Forum.
